As long as I can find some time, I'll give a shot at the icons. Thanks for your interest.

Well, I'm gonna give it some thought now, which is what I do before I do any graphics. Since it was your idea, I'll ask you. Should I do the icons all in the warm yellow color scheme? Or should they be rainbow bright like the new ones?
And do you want a whole new set, or just the non emoticon ones?
Please give me your suggestions and ideas. It will help me decide what exactly I am doing.
(as it stands now I think I may go with blue toned icons, and do a whole set...but it's just my first idea. I think it would be cool to differentiate them from the smilies)Comment

Grover is right, your first run of the emoticon set has been used from the start on vbulletin.nl and we will probably not change that unless you improve yourself. I am quite pleased, heck, very pleased!
Can't wait what you do to the icon set.Comment

Here they are:
VB3 default Post Icons
---------------------------------------------------------
Icons without the re-used smilies
---------------------------------------------------------
Again.... we have said it before... those images look just fine actually when you see them on their own, like i've posted them above. But... some of them do not blend in very well with the Vb3 default style.
The thing is.... the - image is not only used for a Post Icon, but is also used inside Who's Online. (when you are Admin that is : see screenshot) And there it looks pretty 'crappy'. The blue-sheme is way to 'bright' and therefore all those -images stand out waaaay to much on the Who's Online screen. They get all the focus now and I tend to not like that. Related to the Who's Online screen, I think they do much better if they are soften-down so my eyes come to rest and I can concentrate on the information on the screen instead of these bright-blue images.
So regarding your question 'Should I do the icons all in the warm yellow color scheme? Or should they be rainbow bright like the new ones?'
My answer is : you could try both, but I guess it would not be a bad idea to have the Icons get a different colour from your -great- smilies. When you go that way, please keep in mind what I've said above regarding the multiple ways some Icons are used.
'And do you want a whole new set, or just the non emoticon ones?'
No, really I like your smilies very much (I thought that was clear by now ) so just the Post Icons would be nice! In fact... it would be GREAT!

Okie dokie!
Here's my first poke at them. If I'm going in the wrong direction, please let me know sooner than later. lol And don't be easy with me. I want these to be great (I wanna use em on my own forums too, ya know! lol)
The thumbs are hard, but I am trying. My first stab is to have the hand like the thumbs up or down is being given to the viewer, rather than it being their hand. Think about it and look at the current thumbs up. It's like I'm giving mySELF a thumbsup, which is just silly. lol
Anyway, work called me in early. See if ya like it.Comment

Man, they look kinda crappy. I can do better. lol Sorry to even bother you with those. I WILL do better.Comment

Grover, you do realize that, by default, only Admins see that question mark icon on Who's Online right?Comment

Hi Freddie,
I don't exactly know what you meant by your statement, but I guess you mean that if only the Admin can see it and not our userbase, no-one will actually be bothered by it, apart from the admin him/herself? Just correct me if I am wrong on this assumption.
But yeah, you could say that. Only the admin can see those -things in the Who's Online, so why bother? My point of view is this.... : as an Admin I am the MOST frequent user of Who's Online on my forums. Even if all of my userbase cannot see the things I see, I simply want to be able to use my own forums with pleasure.
When administrating my Bulletin Board I want my 'Admin'-life to be as easy as possible. My board is my work-environment. In real life I want my work-environment to be clean and calm/quiet. On 'board' I want the same. I spend a lot of my time on the boards and inside the AdminCP. The VB3 board-style looks great, it really does. But I could not believe the fact that the AdminCP had the default style it had when it first was released in the beta-stages. Amazingly... the board had a great style, but we as Admin's were forced to look at WHITE TEXT ON A BLUE/LIGHTBLUE BACKGROUND during our job. Speaking about contrast (literally). The most important user on my bulletin board is ME! Without me, there is NO bulletin board. Yes... without users there also isn't any... but you get the point. So why provide users with a much better graphical environment then the Admin him/herself? (speaking about contrast again... ) I did not understand that and I still don't.
A lot of people felt the same way, so THANKFULLY the 'Frontend'-Admin style was released during the RC-process. FINALLY I was able to do my job on a white background with black text........
What I want to say is just this : there's no distinction between a registered user/quest or an Admin. We are all users of the same board. So if it doens't work for me, it doens't work for my users and vice versa. The thing I don't always understand are the decisions that Jelsoft makes concerning the userinterface of VB3. We have a fantastic default (user)style, but initially the AdminCP style was very userunfriendly (due tot the coloursheme) for an Admin. Again, we have a fantastic default (user)style, but the new graphics do not match that level.
Then again, I guess no human or product is 100% perfect. A product has to be evaluated, it evolves/grows due to customer feedback etc. So I am glad to find out that Jelsoft listens to that, which resulted in the release of an alternative AdminCP style for instance. The same goes for the new graphics: I understand solutions are being provided in the future so that's good to hear.
Keep up the good work,

Regarding the 2 VB3 default icons I posted above: I am not particular fond of the VB3-thumbs-up, but I do like the manuscript-icon. (maybe some other colour will work better then white?)
Just my 2 cents,Last edited by Grover; Mon 29 Mar '04, 8:49am.How much do you love XenForo?Comment

It's a good thing.
But why not add some properties to the third and fourth generation.
