Although this is definitely a place where men rule I'd like to point out a few features that make hystersisters.com a unique community.

Besides being an all women site, hystersisters.com uses vbulletin and its database for most of the rest of the site.

The main page of the domain is integrated, using Vb templates. Guests see a different main page than the members....with help for the guests/visitors ( mostly newbies) on how to use the site, how to register and such). I can add, edit, alter, hand select favorite threads for the main page all through the templates. Its my favorite function of the integration.

Calendar events include birthdays and surgery dates since their membership revolves around another date....a hack added this to our profiles and the calendar.

We send out birthday greetings and surgery "get well" greetings to all the members via a cron.

We have special subscriber groups that get additional benefits (avatars, custom titles, photogallery, etc) from payments we call "crown jewels".

We have integrated PhotoPost into our vb.

We have integrated Raidersoft's Platinum chat software into our vb for registered members only.

We are about to launch one on one "customer service" feature as well, all set to go...integrated into vb.

Because of the awesome software of VB and the additional hacks available and the wonderful support team here, on ORG and by hire....I believe hystersisters.com is a great resource for the 25,000 members. (Yes, we purge our membership list too...keeping our database with working emails.....purging un-activated user accounts).

Thanks for the nomination guys...and thanks for your continued help and support helping me to keep hystersisters.com up and running for so many women who need help.

Hands-down it's www.hystersisters.com. The overall strengths of Hystersisters completely dominate this month's contenders in every way. For me the decision has never been this clear.

None of the others have any real theme or purpose other than forum-for-forum's-sake, except maybe ArtOrg (Kudos, guys), which, though too cartoony for my taste, has developed an appropriate style of its own that seemlessly fits in with the community.

KuraFire and Talk Loud both look really sharp, but the former feels overwrought and neither show any topical focus. I'd suggest finding something to specialise in, or at least put a unique slant on things. KF could tighten up its postbit--it's a touch cluttered/show-offy--but Talk Loud's is sweet. (BTW, it's currently 404'ing. )

I don't know what to make of Bearfacts2 at all; is it for furries, fantasy fans, Charmed fans? Since "Happy New Year" is the latest homepage item, I'd recommend updating more regularly and, again, finding something special topic-wise and running with it. I don't really see anything that sets it apart in terms of design, content, or community. Good colour balance, though. The community might just need some more time to develop.

I'd really like to see more forums that aren't just virtual high-school lunchrooms, a smattering of topics with no real direction. A good community needs something to differentiate itself from the thousands of other forums out there, something other than just graphics.

Good board overall, design, layout, and the community is great. That's why I like it.

Unless you are a part of all of the board, and post on them regularly how can you say this? Juding a book by its cover are we?
"smattering of topics with no real direction"...Again, unless you partcipate in each of these boards, you can't really say that. Each board is unique in it's own way, and just becuase they may not have topics that just you yourself don't like..that doesnsn't make it bad. It makes it different.

                  Anyway, to each their own.

Talkloud.net gets my vote handsdown. The design is clean crisp and simple and to great effect. Bane has strived to keep the site in a good shape for many years. The intigration throughout the site and the features they offer are amazing.

I don't specialise in one thing, since my board is actually a support forums for something like 3-6 sites, combined. The only specialization, if you will, is that I'm trying to get people with varied interests to get together. Like, there's geeks, gamers, writers, anime fans, all combined.

Of course, half of this isn't really noticeable since I've put development of all the sites on a temporary halt, and some of the sites aren't even up right now. So it's kinda a support forum with tons of additional features, but without the main sites that it's a support forum _for_.

Also, I'm gonna make a few new designs for when I upgrade to vB3, cos yeah, the postbit's too cluttered, but I have to stuff a LOT of info in it :/

Ahwell, I'm planning a massive overhaul in the structure of the site once I upgrade to vB3...

A forum's most important purpose is to build a community. My vote goes to one of the best vbulletin community ever created. Large, dedicated, friendly, needed, useful to many, appreciated by many:

I do NOT do custom work, so please do not PM/email me for such projects. Thanks for understanding..
