Can not override default style in sub forum

I can not seem to change my forum colors in each different forum. If I set the top forum to "wood" and another one to "stripes" the size of the header changes but nothing else. I can't seem to find the hang up. Maybe it's because I don't understand the new terms. Whats a forum, whats a channel? Does this have anything to do with the colors not changing?

Try it using an "ordinary" user...I find sometimes in vB5 style switching behaves oddly for admins but not ordinary members.

We color code our boards, as a visual reminder as to which board we are in at the time. I have all of the registered users controls overridden. I wonder if that could be the hang up.

Currently, in vBulletin 5, the users have to be able to switch styles via the options for the specified styles to work. If you don't want them switch styles manually, you would have to hide the style switchers via CSS.
