    Check out my Forum Re-Design

I did a redesign of my forums last night and I think it looks much better. I spent the better of two hours looking at every vB and uBB I could find to see what looks nice. Let me know what you think.

I took the new buttons that vB has now since I really do like them.

Wow.. it looks great, so much nicer colours i think.

    A few little things:

Private message link on front page is black on the blue. Dosen't work (especially the red mouse over.. change it to white!)

I really like it when the white table at the back curves in the corners. Something i think i am going to do when i do my templates. Maybe you would like to do that?

Ok, my computer looks like it is going to crash as i can't load up the other IE window. Will add more comments when i come back!

Private Messaging is Black on Blue? In IE and Netscape I see white on blue, what browser are you using?

I am going to make the corners round when I get some more time today or tomorrow.

      [edit]

Aha you see it as a guest and there it is black on blue, I will change that right now!

        more little things:

On my monitor the text links look great because they do not go over the top of the logo. If i shrink the browser down they do however and it doesent look so good. Perhaps hard split them onto two lines to keep them separate?

Chins & Quills > Hedgehog Houssing etc...

i would left align that bit and then center or 70% across have "moderated by". I think the title (and navigation bit) should go on the left.

Need a blank text line below the "Powered by vBulletin bit" will make it look a bit better.

The "next link" inside the threads is too small.

Not sure but having some of the links like "quote" on 1 line and the othes like "profile" on another is a little tad confusing. I understand the way you have done it with user links on the bottom and thread links on the top but i am not sure i like it. Perhaps have all the user buttons below the person's name on the left (and get rid of location and interests section?). Just a personal preference.

These are all tiny tiny little things. You have one of the nicest vbulletin forums there so it was hard to find anything but constructive crictisism is i guess generally useful.

I did add a space below "powered by" as I had meant to do that. I also changed the thread title a bit. My users are used to the way postbit appears so I do not want to change that as they are happy with it and know where the buttons they need to use are on the screen. They would also not be happy if I removed Location and Interests

Now I'm getting complaints of pages not loading, Users say they have to hit "reload" a few times to get it to come up.

I use Netscape to test the forum out and I have had to hit reload on some occasions when the page would just say "Done" and be blank.

Of course in IE it always works fine.

bet it's an extra or missing table tag somewhere... i'd check your templates and make sure you don't have an extra table tag more than missing one.

Nicely done rangersfan! a huge improvement.

Might I make a suggestion for your main graphic header--

The edges are a little rough (white edges over blue). If you did it in photoshop here is a quick fix:

Select the layer that the white outline is on.

CTRL-A to select everything on that layer

hit your cursor up once and then down once, this will shrink the marquee to enclose only the graphic

Go to the top menu, select, modify, feather-1

                    Select, Inverse

                    Delete

This will add a bit of smoothness to the edges (hopefully) Ahh heck I'm gonna go save your image and do it me-self.

Hmm this silly board doesn't have an image upload feature. Here is your board title smoothed out if you care to take a look:

Overgrow thanks - that is sweet!

Eva - I have went over the html right and left, up and down and I don't see any missing or extra tags.

The thing is though if a tag is missing Netscape will always screw up, right now it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. When it goes blank on load, I can save the source, hit reload, it comes up ok and when compared the sources are the same.

my board sometimes does that in IE. in fact lots of pages across the internet do that when loading dynamic pages (more so than static ones but sometimes they do as well). Probably noting to do with the re-design.

Well it seems to happen on showthread

If the thread has 1/2 posts then no problem but I can get blank pages quite often if I hit refresh on a thread with many posts.

I am going to put all the posts in one table and see if that helps. I might as well since I now have a table going all the way around the forum now anyway.

Can someone PLEASE tell me why there is a "space" between the two parts of my title image. This is the table and you can see the page in my signature.

                            Code:
                            <table width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">

                            <td>&nbsp;</td>

what might help is have the <a> and </a> links all on one line, ie do not start a new line for the </a>

possibly, image size tags might help
