Simply put, a template is the HTML code that displays various aspects of the forums.

When you're just starting out, one of the best things you can do is to turn the 'template name in comments' feature on. When this is on, you'll be able to see the names of the various templates in the source code for your pages.

Admin CP -> Change options -> Templates -> Add template name in comments -> Yes
