    A few 'styling' questions,

Right, just bought vBulletin. I've used Invision Power Board for ages and I thought I'd give vBulletin a try. So far I'm regretting it lol.

Basically I want to try and create a skin or 'style'. To create one do I have to adjust the xml file?

I'm use to just adjusting the CSS and HTML, which are kept separate and easy to adjust in IPB, (advanced mode etc)

Where as so far in vB in the style manager you have to adjust it in the browser. Is there a style sheet?

Because adjusting the xml file seems very long winded.

Perhaps I'm just going about it all wrong.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

No, you do not have to edit or create an xml file to make and modify a style. You do this via the Styles & Templates section of the Admin CP.

Best to start with the documentation.

Here is the online documentation for styles and templates:

And here are color maps for vB in the online manual:

      Yea I know.

But in IPB, you can copy and paste the entire CSS for the site and then say paste it in dreamweaver. Then modify it.

      is this possible?

In vB you can store CSS in files:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Style & Language Settings -> Store CSS Stylesheets as Files? -> Yes

Once you do that you can direc tly edit those files.

We manage the templates and css in the style manager. We're not IPB and do this differently. Sorry if this doesn't work out for you.

Right, just done this, but the folder is empty, is there anything else I need to do? (there is an index.html, that's it though).

You did specify a valid directory that is chmod'd to 777, right? If so the file should be created when you edit a save a style.

                  I did 777, but didn't save a style, that's probably it. Thanks!

                    sorry me again lol.

A css file has appeared now, but it won't let me download it via ftp, i've adjusted the CHMOD too.

                    Any ideas?

                    Thanks.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to download this. I just tried that on my site and had no problems. Did you figure it out? Make sure you are downloading as ASCII.
