    UTF and Big5

    Hi

I am really confused with UTF and big5. I have been using big5 as the default encoding to post both chinese and English texts.

now, I hear people talk about UTF database...what is that? why not big 5 database?

    thanks!

UTF8 is a more universal character set, Big5 only really targets a specific market, while UTF8 encomposes all non standard ASCII characters, at least from my understanding.

I see. thanks for your reply.

But, if my forum was using big5 to begin with, how can I convert it to UTF8?

When we roll out full UTF8 support we will have more information about how to do that.

Oh, my god! you guys are finally working on it!!

I am soo happy. My users complain so much and ask me to switch to a different forum.

If possible, I wish that we dont have to switch the big5 to utf. (Unless there is a safe way to convert the data...I am tooo scared to corrupt it)

do you have a plan when we can see the UTF version?

Also, from the customer's point of view, if the UTF is more expensive, we are willing to pay. But, we are not willing to put up with
software that doesnt meet our expectation!

          thanks!
