Meaning of phrases

Hi all,

I'm trying to translate vBB to Vietnamese. However, I got stuck some time because I could not understand the meaning of some phrases. For example, can anybody help me with this:

In Forum Display: Sort order: Ascending/Descending.

What does Ascending or Descending here mean? I never used those before and when I tried those sort order, I couldn't see the formula. The threads weren't sorted by alphabet, the length of subjects, or the number of posts...

Ascending: From the bottom to the top. In this context from oldest to newest.

Desecnding: From the top to the bottom, or newest to oldest.
