    cPanel / WHM and Suexec

Is anyone here running vBulletin on a server using cPanel / WHM? I just switched my forums to a dedicated server and the fellow helping me out administrating the server has Suexec turned on. Thus the 'Archive' function doesn't work.

Anyone running vB on a cPanel / WHM server without Suexec enabled? I have the whole server and I'm root. I don't host anyone on it - it's for my use only so I can do what I want and there is no 'inside' security issue.

I'm looking for info from others using cpanel / WHM.

I have a CPanel/WHM dedicated server and suexec is turned on. There is no problem with the Achive on my vB3 test forum. It works fine.

      Steve was it phpsuexec?

To be honest its a bad idea. It forces PHP to be run as a CGI which decreases performance all round as well as preventing some of the special apache features such as the lookback which the archive is based on.

I keep getting a "No input file specified" error message (no codes or line numbers or anything else). Searches I did here revealed threads which said with suexec ON the 'Spider Friendly Archive' will not work.

I'm working with a fellow who is good, but isn't familiar with vB. I'm arguing I don't need the security of Suexec - that I want the Archive feature to work. We also went through heck getting several CGI scripts running - but that's another story. I think Server Beach didn't clean up well after a previous 'user' or something. Front page extensions were turned on causing all sorts of weird problems until we got them cleared out.

Anyway, so Steve, you've got Suexec on and it works for you... Hummmm...

OK - you have suexec ON. Do you have phpexec ON?

I don't even see that option in WHM.

I should have named the php part correctly. It's php suexec rather than phpexec. My whm says version 0.1b is installed.

I'm not sure, but it may be that if you have suexec on php suexec is part of the 'package'.

phpsuexec should not be needed to run vB - just use WHM to recompile Apache, and leave it out.
