vB Emails only go out some of the time..

Since some email is working then it's would not appear to be a vB issue. You will need to view the mail logs on the server to see what happened to those emails. Once vB sends it to PHP it's in the hands of the server. If you are on a shared server you may need to ask your host to look through the logs for you.

For what it's worth I get a lot of bounced emails from people who's mail boxes are full, 'unavailable' or over quota. This is a particular problem with hotmail and yahoo accounts. Unless you are on a dedicated server and can set where these bounce messages go, you will never see them. The mail logs will have a record of these though.

Well, I've tried the mailtest and sent it to a few of my email addresses, but never receive anything. As far as using things like "email activation codes", I receive "bad emails" in my inetpub/mailroot/Badmail dir. The wierd thing is that sometimes everything DOES work. I've tested my own email addys, so I know it's not a full mailbox or quota issue. Here's what some of the bad email headers say ([email protected] is a person's email, I placed the x's to protect thier anonymity.) Now, i'm on WinXP. I don't know much about this mail stuff. I use Apache, the latest version of PHP, and IIS is installed. (for the mail I guess.) I've looked up the "Diagnostic-Code: smtp;501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments" but can't find anything helpful.

I'm sorry you're going to have to condense this for me. Post only the lines directly related to the exact email addresses that are not receiving the email. You'll also need to look at the mail server error logs and post the same info from that.

Steve, here is the info you requested. I cleared the logs and the bad emails, restarted the service, sent one email, then stopped the service. I simply set this account to Awaiting Email, then hit the Email Activation Codes. I set the user's email to my own. The email address it is supposed to go to is [email protected], but it never makes it there. I also notices in both the log, and the email, it gives this error: "Diagnostic-Code: smtp;501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments". Here is the log and bad email:

Here is the actual bad email placed in the inetpub/mailroot/badmail dir.
3 files are created in that dir, with extentions ".BAD" ".BDP", and ".BDR". The ".BAD" is readable, the others are binary. Now, in that email it's sent from postmaster@ZIVILYN (ZIVILYN is my computer name) to webmaster@localhost. I have no idea where that goes, or how to check it. DO those email addys look wrong? Hmmm...my error logs are a lot better at explaining what happened. For instance:
