Do you think that its right for the government to introduce the stop of smoking in public places? Yes or no? And why?

On the other hand, I work at a hospital where such a ban is bordering on the ridiculous. The administration has extended the ban to cover the entire hospital area, both indoors and outdoors, for employees and the general public alike.Toddler from Hell -
I really shouldnt smoke due to health reasons, but i choose to smoke as it helps me cope...MCSE, MVP, CCIE

As a person that's heavily into second-hand smoke, I'd say, yes, banning smoke in public places has its merits. Just look at the people that work at bars. I'd say they benefit greatly from it.

Whats next? Cant smoke in your car or your own home? Its funny how people complain about smoking yet they drive cars. Your polluting more than smokers and you cant tell me that the crap your cars let out are not more dangerous. Cant smoke in a fast food place for health reasons but you can use the drive up and kill everyone with your car fumes!Comment

Now lets have another example. If you wanted to go to a bar and do not like second hand smoke, you should find yourself a non-smoking establishment. For me, I would find a smoking establishment. It doesnt get anymore simple than that and by what your post said, it would still remain true. If your not at a place that allows smoking, you cannot be harmed by it.
In certain places like at a ball park, I can understand a no smoking rule. It would be hard to seperate the two. But for bars, restaurants and other indoor public establishments, they have no business telling them how to run it.
Isnt the idea of a "free" country to freely be able to make a choice or is everything these days just one sided?👍 1Comment

It comes down to this.. If I own a bar and I want it to be a smoking establishment, I should have the right to do so. If you own a bar and do not want smoking, then you should have that right. The government shouldnt be in your face telling you how to run your business or your life.

Having a smoking section is like having a peeing section in a pool. I can understand their point. But if they are so upset about places that allow smoking.. Stay out of them and go elsewhere!Comment

I agree with the smoking ban but in a way its got to be a bad idea as for one. A lot of tax is put on a packet so what are they going to do to add more tax on other stuff like whisky?
Ooops I forgot Gordon Brown drinks that so I bet it gets put down in price.Comment

Like jerry springer, my final thought is this... Raising the taxes and banning us from the public equals control over the masses to quit smoking by making us poor and feel substandard while the tax money is used to support useless programs and fund a bogus war. You can quote me saying this!Comment

In my state (CT) they love taxing cigarettes and alcohol. Actually, last week each pack went up another 50 cents. All it comes down to is to push smokers to quit. As if raising taxes and banning smokers from public places isnt enough, every other commercial on television is based on telling us how bad they are for us.

I bet if a terrorist captured a PM's son they would try everything to get him free and yet anyone else like for example Ken Bigley was left to get murdered.Comment

I used to smoke, quit a year and a bit ago. It didn't help that I worked in a Diamond Mine at the time surrounded by trades people who can hammer back a pack before lunch time.
When I was waiting for the bus today some guy decided to have a cigarette while sitting on the same bench as me. The wind kept blowing his second hand stank my way and it drove me crazy. I had to get up and get away from the smoke, when I used to smoke I would go down wind, and far away, it seems the younger crowd doesn't care so much.
As far as banning the cigarettes, they should be sold in liquor stores I think. Why should kids and everyone else have to see cigarettes while you are buying groceries or slurpees at 7-11? I think that would be a step in the right direction, and hey it would be a boost, someone wanting a pack of smokes may buy beer to go with them!
I also read somewhere, (sorry i'm too lazy to google the link) that smokers had a significantly reduced chance of developing parkinsons disease. So although it's a killer they should study the other aspects of smoking and see what else it does to the human body.

It has been only 2 or 3 weeks for me with VB 5 and my eyes are straining and my body aches for the time I spend...-
