    Time zone reads incorrect

    This one is driving me crazy.

    Under options, if a user sets their time zone to -6 CST, when they look around the site, and anywhere it references the time, it reads the following:

    All times are GMT -5. The time now is 09:33 AM.

    In a mod that I have, it does the same

    (GMT -5:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada), Bogota, Lima

    Why is it doing this? The user setting is definately set to CST, because the time is correct, and under Options, it does indeed show CST (-6). Why won't it show this way elsewhere?

    That would be because of daylight savings time most likely. Disable this manually in your UserCP.

      But if I turn off DST, then it has the incorrect time.

      All times are GMT -6. The time now is 07:49 PM.

      It's actually 8:49 p.m.

        vBulletin gets its time from the server. You need to set the timezone and DST settings in the Admin CP to match the timezone of the server your forums are running on. Then each user needs to set their local timezones/DST in the User CP. If you do this correctly and the server time is correct, then the correct times will show.

        This also assumes that you have not modified the footer template to affect the DST detection code in it.

          Thank you for the replies thus far, but this isn't helping.

          Our server is in Texas, which puts it in the CST.

          I change the vBulletin Options to CST and enable DST.
          I am in CST as well, so in my USERCP I set the time to CST.

          If I leave the DST to automatically detect, the time is correct but it reads All times are GMT -5.

          If I turn the DST to off, it reads All times are GMT -6, but the hour is off by one hour.

          It doesn't matter what I change in vbOptions, it doesn't change what I'm seeing.

          This wouldn't be a big issue except that our download manager picks a "release date" on hidden files based off of a time you input. The false -5 causes something to be released one hour earlier, which is not what we want. I need the -5 to read the correct time zone.

          p.s. Footer has not been edited.

            *sigh*

            I guarantee that if you do this correctly the correct *time* will show. This is independent of GMT since GMT doesn't change so when the time changes, the GMT offest will be an hour different.

              i am having the exact same issue right now.

              i have basically done all the steps listed above and my forums still show a time 1 hour behind actual time.

              my server is in chicago CST

              i'll keep an eye on this thread to see if someone can figure out what's going on.

              steve - i have tried your suggestion with no luck thus far.

              thanks.

                Steve, I messed around with this for an hour last night. I can not get it to work. However, I came here to test it out, and have to ask.. is this site set up incorrectly then as well, because I can't get it to show -6 with the correct time here at vbulletin.com either. Here are the screen shots. It was 9:02 my time when I took these CST. (1st photo is the settings, 2nd photo will show the time it is displaying)

                I tried all 3 combinations.. none will give me "All times are GMT -6. The time is now 9:03am."

                So...?

                    Then it's likely that you have the wrong timezone set in your AdminCP's vBulletin Options. This has to be set to the server time.

                      You time zone will be shown as the following while in Daylight Savings:

                      GMT = 0

                      Set Time Zone = -6

                      Daylight Savings = +1

                      0-6+1=5.

                      Your clock to be correct should be GMT - 5 even if your Timezone is GMT - 6 because of Daylight Savings Time. Daylight Savings Time is an artificial adjustment. During Spring and Summer, the Central Timezone of the United States is GMT - 5. During Fall and Winter it is GMT - 6. As long as the timezone is set correctly in your control panel, the server time is correct, and the proper DST settings are in place then the TIME should be correct. If the time is correct then what it says for "GMT - X" should be irrelevant. To lower confusion, you can remove this completely from the phrase all_times_are_gmt_x_time_now_is_y.

                        this is how i have my date and time set up and it still displays 1 hour behind current time.

                        my server is in chicago, ill and i have my admin cp set to CST as well as in my user cp.

                        and it still won't display correct time.

                        this is very frustrating, because i have been trying everyone's suggestions.

                        i even put in a trouble ticket with my host and they said my server is CST and to contact vbulletin.com

                        any more suggestions? my version is 3.6.5

                        thanks

                          Please make a php file on your server called timenow.php

                          Add the following code to it

                          PHP Code:
                          <?php
                          $timenow
                          date("F j, Y H:i:s OT");
                          echo
                          "$timenow";
                          ?>
                          Then please provide a link to this file for us.
