    Database question

    My hosts lost my database along with thousands of others when they moved to a new server. Because of the complaints, the hosts have now retreated and made no attempt to do anything about the problem. Because my forums were only recently launched, I decided to download the latest VB version and start a fresh. I set-up a new database, changed the config.php file and it wouldn't work. Four weeks of tinkering and I've resigned myself to the fact that it isn't going to. But I then installed the add-on of phpBB via my control panel just to see if it works and it does. Perfectly. It has added a new database to my domain called "domain_phpbb1".

    My question is, can I run vB off the phpbb1 database? I have tried my config.php file and it still doesn't work so I figured the answer is no, but I thought I'd run it past you experts anyway in case there is a way I can make it work.

    Thank you in advance.

    What doesn't work? To help we need to know exactly what you are doing and what happens when you do it.

      We might also have one of your control panels already listed, see http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/create_database

        Scott, I followed the process of setting up a database via the control panel from the manual.

        The error I get for the new forum on both the new database I created and the "_phpbb1" database is:

        Fatal error: Database class not found

        The error I get for the old forum on the original database is:

        Database error in vBulletin :

        Link-ID == false, connect failed
        mysql error:

        mysql error number: 0

          Sounds like you've edited a variable you shouldn't.

          Do you use Ensim, Plesk or Cpanel?

                I followed that part of the manual very carefully when creating the database. In fact, went it didn't work the first time, I deleted the newly created database and started again.

                When you say I may have edited a variable that I shouldn't, do you mean in the config.php file? I have saved the original copy and gone back several times and started again. I edit the username, password, email and the database name.
