    About Gzip compression

    Hello,

When i enter to Cookies..I find this: Level of Gzip Compression

    it is pointed to: 1

what if i make it 9 or 5 ?? does that mean that it will compress more? and decrease from the original size?

does it have any side effects?

    thx

Leave it at '1'. Higher settings substantially increase the server load without providing any noticeable benefit.

I ran some test a few years back, The compression ratio for a 200kb text file was:
        Gzip level 1 0.593
        Gzip level 6 (default) 0.586
        Gzip level 9 0.585

Its less than 1% difference, the thing was compression took about 30% longer for level 6 and 50% for level 9. So your CPU would go up a great deal for a really minimal smaller size.

6 is the default for the gzip command line utility.
