    I just did an install without any problems. The first thing I recommend is that you reupload all the original vB non-image files. Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server.

      Re-uplaoded all non-images in ASCII mode and get the same thing...

      EDIT:: I deleted everything and did a fresh upload, now it doesn't even ask for custoemr number jsut gives me those squiggly characters...Corrupted .zip maybe?

        What i did to upgrade was I deleted all the files, including the images. Since the database is always separate (and if you are using the database for attachments and avatars) you should delete all the files and upload the files brand new and then run the install/upgrade script.

        if you have attachments by file system, you might want to move them into the database first before doing my steps.

          I'm donig a completely new install, not an upgrade. It is a clean database and clean install and everything..

          Or di I misunderstand you?

            This almost certainly is due to bad or improperly uploaded files.

              I guess I mis-understood you. Try uploading in binary. I did that and I had no problems.

                All vB files should be uploaded in ASCII except for the image files (gif, jpg, etc.)

                  I tried binary and ended with the same thing. I did have it set on automatic first time (Images binary, non images were ASCII). I'm going to try it all ASCII now...I have downloaded the new .zip and these last two times I haven't wrote over the files, I've deleted the odl ones and uploaded into a clean folder. Could it be Firefox ? Or my FTP program?

                  EDIT:: I tried ASCII mode as well again and still same thing.

                  Brief Summary:
                  Downloaded
                  Uploaded in automatic mode
                  didn't run
                  cleared cache and cookies
                  stil ldidn't work
                  overwrote with fiels again
                  same as above
                  deleted
                  redownlaoded new .zip
                  re-uploaded in ascii only (Only non-image files.)
                  no dice
                  Binary everything
                  no luck
                  ASCII everything
                  nothing

                  So..I'm all out of ideas.

                      Be sure you set your FTP program to auto-detect; it generally helps a lot

                      PHP files -> ASCII
                      Image Files -> Binary

                        I used auto-detect the first time. I've tried every setting on it.

                        I'm using Ace FTP 3 (Freeware.). It is the best I've been able to find and I have installed a vbulletin on it before and also used it for uploading any hacks in the past.

                        I'm seriously at a loss...I can't do anything. I even went nd tried another computer and it didn't work.

                            So I'm guessing now the idea is to change FTP clients? I'm going to try the built in windows explorer ftp before I downlaod anything else and see what happens.

                            EDIT:: My IE built in FTP seems to be not working..doesn't ask em to log in..just says page cannot be found...hmm...

                            EDIT 2:: I got on a different user profile on my computer and started up the ftp agent (Ace FTP 3) and just out of sheer curosity tried it from the other user profile...Finished..thought it wsa going to work but the same thing happened...so...What FTP agents do you recomend? >.<
