Since the Hints And Tips forum doesn't allow me to make new thread, I'll post this here.
If you are using FireFox, you must have known there's a search box in the up corner right that lets you do quick searchs for sites, by default FireFox has Google, Yahoo, Ebay, Amazon,....See the attachment for how it looks like.
This tutorial helps you to add a new one to your site (or any site you wish). The main purpose of this is providing a link in your site so that when users click on it it will ask to add the new search engine to FireFox.
Here's it:
1. Open notepad or any of your favourite text editor.
Copy and paste the following code into it:
Save this file with name "forumsearch.src" , note that the extension is .src.
- The value in name (in the above code it's "Forum Search" ) will be the name of that search engine in FireFox after users add it. This is on the right, the image is on the left.
- Things you need to change is:
- change http://YOURSITE.COM/FORUMS/search.php in "action" to your forum search.php file, do the samne with "searchForm"
- change http://YOURSITE.COM/files/forumsearch.src to the link to your forumsearch.src file, same for http://YOURSITE.COM/FORUMS/files/forumsearch.gif
The forumsearch.gif images will be the icon of your search engine. It must be 16x16 size images, can be any type (jpg, gif, png, bmp).
2. Edit HTML Code
- This is code below is a single .html file that shows the Download Here link, when users press this link it will ask them if they want to add a new search engine into FireFox for http://YOURSITE.COM.
Remember to change http://YOURSITE.COM/files to where you store your .scr and .gif files. If you are using jpg or png image, then remember to change the 2nd param of addEngine to jpg/png.
Now FireFox has a search enigne to your site !
and of course you can search your forum from there.
