    $500 Macintosh???

Seems rumors are abounding that Apple is going to make a more affordable iMac in 2005.

Really underpowered though. You need 512 MB bare minimum, 1 GB for smooth performance.

But for people in web design who need to test pages in Safari and such, it could work.

512 minimum? Where did you get that idea? I have 3 macs in this house, all running OS X and one is a 6-year-old I-mac with 256 megs of ram. Macs do well the way they manage memory usage, so I'm not sure what you mean that anyone needs a "minimum" of 512 megs of ram. I suppose it depends on what you're doing with it.

Not to mention, RAM is SOOOOO cheap these days, you could still build a a fairly inexpensive system with a good amount of RAM.

A good idea, I am sure there will be a bunch of web developers who get one for proper site testing as well as some of the other things that macs do better. I have often wondered why MAC dosen't push the "2nd computer" thing a bit more - a bit like the Gamecube console - this could be a good start.

Me, too. I've been contemplating getting a nice dual G5 system, but simply can't justify the cost. This would be perfect for me.

The eMac is running for under a grand now.

My eMac is a few years old, 700mhz processor with 256MB ram, but within the next couple days I think I'm going to buy a 512MB stick to boost me up to 640.
