    vBulletin 3.6.8 Released

    vBulletin 3.6.8

vBulletin 3.6.8 is a maintenance release to improve the stability of vBulletin as well as providing required compatibility for the vBulletin Blog addon. The Blog therefore will require 3.6.8 as a minimum to function.

Changed files and mandatory template changes are listed below.

We have also fixed various bugs since vBulletin 3.6.7 was released, these fixes include:

    Upgrading from Previous Versions

3.6.8 is a maintenance release and we recommend that all customers upgrade to benefit from many bug fixes and stability improvements.

No patch or plugin is available to bring previous versions up to 3.6.8 without a full upgrade, as the various changes to implement all the bug fixes represent a large number of changes. To get the fixes from 3.6.8 onto your own board, you must perform a full upgrade.

Full instructions for upgrading vBulletin are available here.

    PHP and MySQL Requirements

Please note that vBulletin 3.6.x requires at least PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.16 or later.

End of Life for PHP 4 announced

The PHP group recently announced that support for PHP 4 will end on December 31st, this means there will be no security updates or bug fixes for PHP 4 after this point. We seriously recommend that you consider upgrading to the latest version of PHP (5.2.3) and MySQL (5.0.45). vBulletin 3.6.8 supports both of these without any problems, though you may need to disable strict mode for MySQL, see here on how to enable 'force_sql_mode'.

Note: We will continue to support PHP 4 in our currently released versions.

    Download vBulletin 3.6.8

As usual, vBulletin 3.6.8 is available for all customers with valid, active licenses to download from the vBulletin Members' Area.

    Templates Changed Since 3.6.7

Templates with Mandatory Changes Since 3.6.7

A mandatory change indicates that functionality will be explicitly broken if you do not apply this template change. This could be as small as a broken image or as significant as data loss. Always make sure these changes are applied as soon as possible.

Remember, you only need to manually apply changes to templates that you have explicitly customized. Use the "Find Updated Templates" option and cross reference with this list (if you are upgrading from 3.6.7). We recommend reverting your customized templates and recustomizing them to guarantee you have all the necessary changes.
    • SHOWTHREAD
      • Mandatory Change: Changes to allow a more flexible text editor size. (Quick reply will be very small if you don't do this.)
      • Added padding around the Quick Reply options. See bug #22840.

Templates with Non-Mandatory Changes Since 3.6.7

Your vBulletin installation will not be broken if you don't apply these changes, but small bugs may be fixed and new functionality may be available by applying these changes. We recommend you apply these changes in the same way that you apply mandatory changes.
    • announcement_edit
Minor cosmetic changes to allow a more flexible text editor size.

    • calendar_edit
Minor cosmetic changes to allow a more flexible text editor size.

    • editpost
Minor cosmetic changes to allow a more flexible text editor size.

          3.6.8 Package Update

Unfortunately, as of this post, the 3.6.8 package in the members' area has been updated to provide fixes for several 3.6.8 specific issues. See below for a list of issues addressed.

          The following files were updated:
          • admincp/modlog.php
          • includes/functions.php
          • install/vbulletin-style.xml

Simply re-download the package and manually upload those 3 files over top of the existing ones. You should then re-import the master style to gain the fixes to 2 affected templates. To do this, log in to your admin control panel, go to Styles & Templates -> Download / Upload Styles -> Import Style XML File -> "Import".

Alternatively, you can manually apply the fixes for each issue by viewing the appropriate bug report:

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
