    Today/Yesterday Time

On the beta forum, threads posted today and yesterday have the "Today" and "Yesterday" labels instead of the date. Please don't make this the default format. I installed that Today/Yesterday hack to my forum a while ago and most of my members disliked it. It makes the page look more ugly because the alignment is not straignt.

Besides, it's always good to have the forum remind what today's date is.

I'm fairly certain this feature will be optional, as there has been some confusion with regards to how this feature overlaps.

Do you mean that the alignment within the "last post" column is off? That is a problem with the standard hack (due to the way the standard templates handle dates), but there are ways of fixing it.

I'd like to invite you to check out the forum page of my new site: http://forum.icomix.com, and take a look at how the Yesterday/Today alignment is handled there. Of course, the posts there may not be recent enough to give you a full impression (the posting comes in waves) but feel free to post in the Guest Forum.

No, I meant overlaps in a time-sense, like if someone posts at or around the stroke of midnight. The alignment is just fine.

this post was exactly about the "Midnight issue" which people encounter and find odd. Unfortunately the developers think otherwise about this, unless we all can convince them

..which is why I expect it to end up as optional.

yeah, I disliked it because the dates are in 3 different lengths. I prefer the dates to have the same length so the last post column looks neater.

Can't you get around that by editing the template? I don't know the specifics, but I was planning on putting the date and time on 2 lines anyway, under/over.

I agree with the suggestion that the Today display should be optional, though.

That is simply a template thing which can be fixed by the siteowner in many different ways (tablecells, css code, dhtml etc). So that's not the real issue at all.

I know it can be changed easily in the template, maybe by adding extra spaces after Today/Yesterday. I just don't want to edit the template for such small things, especially when my forum has like 6 different styles.

I have no problem with it if they make it an optional feature.

This is the ultimate date/time display feature IMHO:

Just provide the $variables, so people can choose how they want the date/time to be displayed.

That's exactly the way I want to do mine. In my mock-ups I only have today/yesterday though (got tired of that specificity on IGN's UBB setup), but after looking at your example I see the light. It works well.

    Great idea...

I changed the display (temporarily) to see what this other system works out to. It goes back to 4 weeks and then reverts to showing the normal date format.
