    Uh oh, 58 users today.

Today my highest count of users on the board was 58. Right now, its 43.

My board I just put up for fun, and its core members (15-20 at the most) are a close group of ppl from another forum (3dfiles if anyone remembers) that just got together. I run it out of my pocket, no ads or anything, just for the fun of running a board.

Well anyway, another UBB forum run just died due to money and member issues, and a few of our members who were members of that forum got into a bit of a war with the admins, accusations flying left and right about the other board lying to its members, hacking someones own phpBB board, begging its members for money to keep the site up etc. I guess the board couldnt handle all the heat and called it quits, so it seems my board is getting flooded with refugees from that board.

At most, we get 12-15 users at a time, its been like that for months. The highest count was 43, and that was when I first put up the forum and 3dfiles UBB died, so we gained a few members etc. History is repeating itself it seems. I mean its great to have new members (this week we got like 25 new registrations), but whats making me sweat bullets is the fact that Im on a shared server.

I use Hostrocket's economy plan, and they suspend sites that have more than like 30-40 concurrent connections (I think its only if its constant, like 30-40 every day). I wonder if this keeps up, because if it does I just might have to upgrade to a semi-dedicated account. I've put a load and connections limit (3.0 for the warning level, 25 connections before it starts turning away visitors).

For those who have a board that has 30-70 connections daily, what host and plan do you use and how has it worked out for you?

Chris server are GREAT but do take note that you are paying $5 per GB of data transfers and in blocks of 5GB. If you are transferring like 20GB which may cost you $100, you might want to check out VO V650 plan which gives you 30GB of data transfer and 100 concurrent connections.

Determine your needs and pay for what you use since your site is running out of your own pocket.

I emailed chris but he's not taking on any more at the moment. I might have found a solution to pay for Hostrocket's Semi-dedicated accounts at $65 per month which isnt too shabby at all.

Do you have the specs to those semi-dedicated plans? I couldn't find on HR website about semi-dedicated. Maybe it is a plan customised to your needs.

The most important of all is to ask how many concurrent connections you can have Anyway, compare them to VO

    Same price at $65

    From HR:

Semi Dedicated Accounts Are Now Available:

The accounts stats are as follows:

    1gb storage space
    30gb transfer
    20 mysql db's
10-20 accounts per server as determined by admins
    priority support

    $65/month

These accounts will run a slightly slimmed down version of the control panel, as we will be removing a few resource intensive features such as the shopping cart to increase server performance and reliability.

I've asked support about max connections, and they say 50-60 easy on the semi-dedicated. What does VO have as a limit?

VO V650 plan has 100 concurrent connections. I'm sure you know Vbulletin is all about concurrent connections. With 50-60, you might as well take a risk and go on ANY VO plan that comes with 45 concurrent connections. With 56 Online user, i think 45 is still enough.

Looking at HR plan, i would easily choose VO plan even though HR has extra 350MB of webspace which might be useful to you.

As for HR priority support, i would be impressed with that if they *do* guarantee 10 mins turnaround. But you can be rest assured with VO support. Ask around

100 for that $65 plan eh? Hmm. Space isnt really an issue. 1gb is nice but I hardly would need that much now. Hell with the 300 I have now I only use about 70mb total. Bandwidth and server resources is whats important to me. I'll look into it further thanks!
