What do all these hosts have against porn?

I don't have a porn forum, but I have a liberal forum, so "pornographic" pictures are accepted, and often posted by members.

The problem is that all the good hosts I've been referred to have policies against porn. What's up with that?

I'm an adult and the users on my board are adults, so why are we being treating like children? I don't get it.

I mean, for crying out loud, I'm talking about legal porn.

Does vbulletin have a policy against porn? I read all the terms & regulations and couldn't find anything about it, so I assume it's okay.

    Can anyone confirm this?

Any information will be very much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    It isn't a "cross post".

This thread is mainly about hosts accepting porn. The other thread is just about vbulletin accepting porn (which is why each thread was posted in the forums they were posted in). The other one is just an edited version of this one.

    Well, I didn't ask you.

Besides, how is it not a pre-sales question when I need to know whether or not vbulletin has a policy against porn before I buy it?

I'd like to see you come up with a logical answer to that question.

This IS a cross post, and if you need info about options, then please ask them in the pre-sales board. That is what it is there for.

yes, there are hosts out there that accept pornographic content. "Adult hosting". You can also use google.com for that.

That's quite simple, it's not a moral issue but a business issue

    Porn sites...
    • attract crackers and skript kiddies -> more downtime, costs money
    • are not like normal accounts and tend to use their allocated bandwidth -> costs money
    • some "normal" users on the same server feel bad by being hosted on the same server -> customer leaves, costs money

I would also add that porn sites tend to host inordinate amounts of copyrighted material that does not belong to the host, also porn sites by and large tend to resort to SPAMMING more than other types of businesses.

Worst, when they don't even know they're spamming and just think its "innovative marketing" (many webmasters don't even seem to know).

Even when the spam isn't technically done BY the website, and conducted through an affiliate or theoretically unconnected website, the policies against spamming STILL apply, because the users track the spam back to the host website, and then complain to the hosting provider.

If they are stupid enough to spam THROUGH the host provider, the provider could be BLACKLISTED by ISP's, and have scores of customers websites get blocked from showing up on the net.

--And as Walter said... Bad PR, Degraded Service, Customers Leave --> Cost money.

Porn is just a dirty business for the most part frought with illegality, fraud, and misrepresentation. People doing it have figured out how to bypass most of these strikes. Also, regarding "illegailty", there are many laws out there against adult material on the web still being debated.

Having to deal with running a hosting company is hard enough without having to manually peruse the different clients you have to see if they are violating laws that could bring you serious legal penalties (never mind keeping UP with said laws).

Easier business is easier business, the morality aspect is either a plus or mostly irrelevant.

To Dudley Bryan Jr & walter...

Well, I'm on a free trail with itmom.com.

    They accept adult material.

    Anyone heard of them?

    Are they cool?

    Good choice?

There are plenty of adult oriented hosts if you do a search on webhostingtalk.com forums.
