What is the deal from aphosting??

it keeps going down, so far its been dead overnight...not to mention like one outtage a week or so it seems.

right now i can access the ftp, but i cant telnet nor hit it via the web.

Andy is usually helpful, but conspicuous by his absence.

Major system coruptions after a reboot caused this downtime, the cause of the coruption is still unknown, I will personally look into how and why it happend once I get everything back up. Telnet is not enabled on the server, you will need to use SSH.

I'm the guy who started the APH thread on the WHT forums. Dump AP while you can and find a new host. It took them 17 hours to get the server back up, and during that time everyone at AP and XISM flew the coop and wouldn't return e-mails, etc. The whole place is a mess. There's no assurance that this couldn't happen again. In fact, the complete disorganization displayed by this server outage almost begs that another one will occur.

We didn't fly the coop, we had to find a viable solution to what happend, this can take time, as you see now, the accounts are back up, with very little coruption. If ya don't like it, leave....

I seem to remember a famous quote, anything that can happen, will happen, your going to experince downtime no matter what the host..

And also, I responded to almost every mail from Jason, I say almost because we had ICQ conversations in between the emails to get the problems solved...

I think we handled it pretty damn well if you ask me, we had a complete system failure, many conf files were corupt, to handle all this, and recreate several accounts, around 40, in that amount of time is extremly hard, no mater who you are....

We don't yet know the cause of it, but we think it was a WHM/Cpanel related problem, because a few user folders were wiped clean with the default structer put in its place....

We also don't beleive it was human error, if one site got deleted accidently, we can see that, but not two....

Yes, we have had our share of downtime, we had a break in not to long ago also, but you'll also notice that 99.9% file recovery from that.....

Its kinda funny how, the thread got locked on WHT.... And I'm hoping this thread will stay open....

Well I think you guys are emailing to the wrong email address then... I was informed along time ago about the future changes of APHosting will be transfering to Xism and support will be handled differently.

    I hope this helps:

Instead of using, support@aphosting.com, use support@xism.net and to reach andy directly i use andy_w@xism.net . I have found that he stays on ICQ alot more than AOL. Recently his response time is getting slower but I can understand he is trying to fix his errors. My fastest response time from Andy, Tim or Mat is about 30 minutes ( support@xism.net ) and slowest is about ( 6 hours ).

I would move too but I cant find any company with a customer relations rep better than Andy. He is quite unique.

Too bad Mat doesn't know what he's talking about.

I personally called Andy after the server had been down an hour or so. He assured me that it would be up in 20 minutes. A far cry from the 17 hours.

As for Tim, maybe around 2am or so he told Jason that it would probably take 30 minutes to an hour to get everything back up. It didn't come back up until around 7pm. And Tim and Tony both got offline around 3am or so, and didn't show back up until the afternoon. That's great customer service right there. Leave your customers in the lurch while they both got offline suddenly with no warning whatsoever (I'm assuming they went to sleep, something I would have liked to do).
I also never said I e-mailed Andy or Mat. My repeated emails were to the owner of XISM/AP, Tony. He refused to answer any of my inquiries as to what the ETA would be for server to be fixed. Three e-mails were written from me to him hours apart. He read every one but answered none. I can tell that he read them because they were sent from my AOL account to his.

As for handling the server problem well? What a bunch of crap. This was handled unprofessionally and incompetently. Tony and everyone under him were not around for most of the outage. I stayed up throughout the entire night waiting for the server to come back online because nobody from their side would give Jason or I an estimation of how long it would take to fix the problem. And when they said they would be working on it, they weren't. They prolonged what could have been a relatively short server outage into one that lasted for 17 hours. There is no defense. They screwed up. And people who own highly trafficked websites like mine who need a certain amount of assurance that the site will be up in a continuous fashion can't count on them.

Oh, and by the way, I AM leaving. I'll be gone within a few weeks to a reputable host that's run by adults and not teenagers. I learned my lesson. You get what you pay for.
