Yea well I figured I wasnt going to play games and go through transfers from freebie boards etc.

And as of last night I am a new owner of vbulletin...I was on the edge for a while and just said f'it lets do it...and people seemd to tell me it was fairly easy to get going even if you were not familiar with php etc.

Any how I logged in this morning and downloaded the zip file...and was crossing my fingers hoping to not hit a brick wall..ahahaha welp that didnt last...I got to the renaming of the config.php file, renamed it and opened it up in an editor, but maybe Im just retarded or have always used different termonolgy, but it is asking all different kind of things..databases, prefix's, sql's etc AAAAHHHHH!!! what the heck is all this...I HAVE NO CLUE...

so instead of messing things up before I even get started I was hoping someone could fill me in as to what exactly I am supposed to edit and to what...it's probably very simple terms for most, but I need help and rather know I did it right off the bat....

If there is any info I can give you to help you help me, please let me know...

I already have the domain, have a host set up (site5), I am familiar with how to upload files via ftp and already have an ftp program I use...I am now a proud vbulletin owner...so I have alot of pieces and I am hoping some one can help me see the puzzle here...

lol, You must have missed the part of "I HAVE NO CLUE"...

I was already at the same link you gave me, I was reading it from the README file within the zip folder problem I think im having is terms...

database? is this meaning my host, my nameservers? etc...

database ports, sql's, modes I mean there is atleast 20 plus things that need to be changed or added....In pre-sales they said my 6 year old sister could do it lol...

Maybe I should ask her, because all this is like another language, is there somewhere that has a guide in laymans terms??

Not much more I can add to the documentation otherwise we would have done that by now. You may want to consider purchasing the professional installation.

Sure theres plenty you can add to the documentation...Obviously, because i'm sure that I am not the only one that has ran into these problems or questions...

I figured this was a support forum no? How is showing me a link to something I already have much support..??

Out of curiosity is that how it is normally done? When people are stuck you just show them a link and hope it works out otherwise they are just SOL.??

From reading the pre-sales as well as other threads I was under the impression if you ran into a problem there would always be customer service to help you through the problem...??

If that is not the case please let me know....as one of my main reasons for purchasing vbulletin was because I heard the support was one of the main plus's....well I purchased and am in need of support....

Ok what I know, I know basic html and some graphic design...and I know how to upload the html files to my server etc. and have never had any problems...but when it comes to databases and mysql's and all this I am lost...

So what I did right off the bat was check the installation guide and got stuck with the "variables" on what should be what in the config.php file...so I went with what I knew (which wasnt much) I put in my technical email and left pretty much everything else default (its says if you dont know it leave it) so I did and away to uploaded I went...so I have all the files uploaded and tried to run the install but obviously I wouldnt be luck enough for it to have worked...so I figured lets go back and look at the config.php and noticed its needs "Master DataBase and username Password" is this why it is is not working? and what username and password does it need, my ftps host? I have created a million usernames and pass's within the last couple days and im starting to lose it...lol...

Basically I cant really even explain what I need done, so its hard to tell you...But im sure you see where im stuck and I have never opened or ran a forum before so my knowledge is limited...so I am more asking you with my situation at hand...what can I do or more so maybe what would you do in my shoes...keeping in mind "spending more money" right now is not an option...I'm not investing another dollar untill I atleast feel Im getting somewhere...

Im losing hair and sleep, lol Please help!! even steps or anything Im hurting lol...

Welcome to vBulletin!

Perhaps you could use this vBulletin Config Creator script, created by Floris. It is an easy alternative for vBulletin newbies to create a working config.php file (as I believe that's what you're wanting to accomplish).

Try doing that and post back here on how it goes.

really.. only about 3 things need to be edited..

database username
database password
database name

That's pretty much it. You've got my PM's earlier, so if you need help let me know and I can guide you on it.
