    connect to database FAILED

    Hi,

    I'm trying to run a new install and I get the following error on Step2) Connect to Database:

    Attempting to attach to database
    Error description: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) /homepages/17/d200621773/htdocs/forums/includes/class_core.php on line 273
    The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the 'includes/config.php' file.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    the error message is fairly clear, ask your webhost about what information you should be using.

    $this->hasFlavr() ? $nom->nom('nom') : $want->doNot()

    is there specific info that I should be asking for? I mean i understand the part of the message about not having permissions. But the rest of it is like chinese to me. Could you tell me specifically what to ask my host for?

    TIA

    You need a mysql database name, as well as a mysql username and password who have permission to use the database.

    I have 1and1 as my host and from the control panel I created a mysql database. I am able to see the database name, username & password and put all that into the config.php file yet I'm still getting the same error.
    When I called 1and1 and asked them if I was looking at the correct place they confirmed that I was.
    Any other ideas?
