We have a board on Invisionfree and a board using vBulletin. We're thinking of merging to the vBulletin board. Is this possible? Is there anything required such as SSH/Telnet etc.?

You will need to get a database dump of your Invisionfree data, then restore that to a new database on your vB server. Then you can use Impex to import that data into vB.

Just remember that what happens in localhost, stays in localhost.
How would I restore it?
The only reliable method of restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because restoring with a PHP script like that in phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeout errors and an incomplete backup file. Please see the instructions here:

Would phpMyAdmin be sufficient for a small forum?
Yes, most likely that'll work. If not then ask your host if they'll import it for you.
