    Import Eve to vBulletin

Alright, well I got the new forum install and running. No problems there and got that done very easily. I even got the impex import system installed as well.

No matter what I do when I put the info in for the source database and it always says "Connection to source server failed. Check username and password" Username and password are correct as they are what I use to sign in with to the database.

So, I know I can do a database dump onto my desktop as a file then import it into a new database on my current server. Well problem I am having there is I always get the error that the file is to large for phpmyadmin to import. I am trying to import the file which is located on my desktop.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Yes, you are going to need to move that data to the same server as vB.

The only consistently reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeout errors and an incomplete backup file.

    Please see the instructions here:

    Backup:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...nce_ssh_backup

    Restore:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore

If you don't have telnet or SSH access, some people have reported success with these scripts:

    MySQLDumper:
    http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php

    MySQLHotxcopy:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...t=mysqlhotcopy

    Bigdump (restore only):

Alright, I am getting some practice imports in and I am having a few issues during and after the import.

First, during the import none of the private messages import over. Is that expected?

Second, after all data is imported over I go to my vBulletin board and the forums are there but none of the posts are in the right forums. All the forums show there have never been posts made in them while all the posts sit under the "default eve" forum. They are under catagories that say "Title-". Why would none of the posts be in their respective forums?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    1. That should have worked. Which version of Impex are you using?

    2. Please follow the 'After the Import' instructions here:

Yeah, I am going by the manual for after the import. The save display part I overlooked. Would that might cause that problem when I do the update counters part?

I am using impex 1.80. When I signed up a few days ago I just downloaded it from my member area.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Try updating the counters next. Then if you still have any issues, please fill out a support ticket at:

    http://members.vbulletin.com/members...ontactform.php

Please include a complete description of the problem and be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP in the 'Sensitive Data' field.

    Thanks!

I got it imported with all the members showing up. Also got the forums fixed and all in order.

Just have to do the mass email for members passwords so they can reset them as those do not work but other than that it went great.

    Thanks,
    Mike
