Integrated Chat without refreshing?

Hi, I'm new to vBulletin. I would like to know if it is possible to create a hack or maybe even a feature that would allow integrated chat, but not using myPHP chat but maybe a Java Applet. I prefer Java applets simply because the page of messages doesn't have to refresh everytime someone adds their message. I also want it integrated so that people may only use their usernames when entering chat and may not use nicknames. Is this possible? I posted in the hacks forum as well, but so far the responses haven't been helpful.

I use VolanoChat on 2 of my sites & I believe it would integrate into the vBulletin membership database fairly easily. I'm not yet using vBulletin so I cannot tell you from first hand experience. I doubt you will be able to find a very robust java-chat product for free, if that's what you're looking for. The url for Volano is http://www.volano.com
