    Am I paying too much?

Hello, I have hosting with Host Globe, Dallas, TX.( www.hostglobe.com)
I am paying 30 $ per month for 50 mb,1 single database, so looking at your reviews I think I pay too much. But the reason i signed up with them, was the possibility to upgrade, i think it's important. Their dedicated server is about 199$ per month. Is this ok price?

I have 2 VBs installed now, but I haven't released them to the public yet.
My 3 month payment finishes soon, what should i do? I am so frustrated, since i thought i have found the right company...

It does seem a bit steep for what you're getting.
    Have a look around WHT.

    Okay for 1997, maybe.

I can't speak for the server, but the shared hosting is EXTREMELY expensive. That sort of outrageously high pricing is very common among smaller general web design and hosting companies catering mainly to local businesses in a certain area.

I wouldn't necessarily say that all webhosts who grossly undercharge are incorrect in anyway. Yes if they do it as a business principal on a regular basis, then it spells trouble for the webhost (in terms of server reliability and uptime) and for clients taking advantage of these low prices and end up hosting CPU hungry apps with such webhosts.

However, if a webhost offers specials once ever so often, its not necessarily a bad deal. We have had occasions where servers were "nearly" full and could take on a couple of more accounts, but since the server cost was already covered, we heavily discounted our specials just to fill up those spots before moving on to the next box.

I hate overcrowding as it stands

After reading people's comments on bad hosting, etc., I wanted to actually see the place, so that's why I chose them( Host Globe), I work close, drive by everyday.
So the local location was important to me. Later my husband told me ,some of these VB staff guys probably don't live in US, but still the service is great. So i looked at couple of hosters, and stopped on asmall orange. i guess when i need dedicated, i ll just go back to my local company here in Dallas, since orange doesn't have dedicated available. I hope it's not going to be much headacke to be switching hosting?
    Thank you for your responces.

Being local doesn't mean its going to make your hosting experiences any more marvellous than any more rotten. I dont know of your webhost and cannot comment on them, but you need to do a fair bit of googling for reviews on any webhost to get as comprehensive as information you can get on their level of tech support, response times, network / hardware uptime etc.

webhostingtalk.com is a good place to start that.

There are a TON of extremely well run datacenters in the US and they compete fairly well for business. Picking someone to host your website because of their location in relation to your's is definitely NOT an item to consider in my opinion.

What could / would you do at most if your server went down ? Drive to their office and ask them for a refund ? Or tell them step on it and get your machine back online ? If their service / support is not up to par, you'll spend a day there without any end result. Moreover, if they aren't on a stable network, you'll end up driving there every other day and not have anything achieved. (This is just an example and not speaking specifically about your host).

To add to things, IF you're considering a dedicated server and you choose to self manage it, other than network / hardware failure, server administration is entirely your bowl of soup. How you keep it up is up to you.
