This is not supported in vB like it was in UBB - you'll have to hand code it in the templates. Take a look at the source of my forum if you'd like to see how.
On the main forum template (not sure on the exact name) you'll see a table that is comment-labled as jel. This is simply a solid table that underlies the main table. I've found that appling a similar 'jel' to all of my templates works very well.
