    MyBB vs. vBulletin

Why does it seem like the admincp for both forums are so similar?
Did they copy some coding from vB?

Why does MyTopix seem so similar to IPB? Why does OpenBB seem so similar to phpBB? MyBB didn't copy vB, it was just inspired by it.

Mac OS X was released on March 24th, 2001
Windows XP was released on October 10th, 2001

So Mac copied off of Microsoft, released it before XP and still made a better product?

So did Apple copy the Zune too?

MyBB is basically a copy of vBulletin, that's not nearly as good, mind you. For one, it takes them 5+ months to release any sort of bug or security fix. If you're looking for free software, there are a lot better options out there that have a plethory of addons, themes, skins and everyone else under the sun.

There are a few vBulletin replica skins for MyBB, too, that makes it look almost identical to vBulletin minus a few things.

There's only so much originality you can add to a forum interface and still keep some level of familiarity. There's no problem unless it's a gross, blatant, obvious rip-off of the UI, which may include character-for-character copying of markup/style.

This time Steve didn't show all the cards on the last keynote and he waited the Vista release. M$ copied just the "Time Machine" kind of look, but I'm sure in spring with Leopard he will smack so hard M$

BSD is a better kind of Unix.

P.S.: Sorry, I can't help myself when we are talking about Apple vs M$

We've exchanged lawyers letters with MyBB in regards to earlier versions which contained vBulletin code, they cleaned up the code and removed the bits we objected to.

Though I'll say the code is somewhat inspired by vBulletin code, anyone who knows the vBulletin code base can see that. You might also notice the database schema is so similar that the importer for MyBB took less than an hour to write.

Thanks for clarifying it with me, Scott.
So is MyBB's security similar, or much different from vBulletin's?
