    vB4.x to 5.x upgrade questions

I currently have two licenses. The first is for 4.x and the second is for 5.x, but both sites are presently running in 4.x because at the time of purchase/install of the second license 5.x didn't support the CMS functions which was my main reason for coming to vBulletin in the first place (joomla and mambo just left too much to be desired).

    Questions:
    1. I thought I remembered seeing the CMS functionality was finally added to 5.x in one of the updates in the last year or so and I just wanted to verify this as true before moving forward.

    2. Is there anything special or different that needs to be done when upgrading from 4.X to 5.x, or is it the same as doing any other version update? I thought I read something about something special needing to be done regarding URL Rewrites or something to that effect.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. The CMS/article system was added to vB5 with version 5.1.0.

    2. The manual covers upgrading to vB5. There is a section called "What to know before you upgrade to vBulletin 5", so maybe this helps you a little.

Do be aware that NO plugins, add-ons or or styles from vB4 will work in vB5.

Thanks, and I figured as much regarding the plugins/add-ons and styles. Fortunately I only run 2 or 3 of the more popular ones so with any luck there will be versions available for 5.x

Plugins are harder to make for vb5 so i am not sure how many will be available.

I am very disappointed with my VB5 purchase and use so far. The product has been out for years, but its still sooooooo buggy.
I got lucky to have a lot of early traffic to grow my forum, but now I'm stuck.

I would not recommend you move to vb5. There is so little support from vbulletin or 3rd parties.

Even worse, I purchased the mobile suite which doesn't work with vb5 at all even though they are sold as working together.

Please don't make my mistake. Stay on vb4 and consider 3rd party add ons versus moving.

The CMS is not good and works like something from 2002 in my opinion.

Do check that, as not that many have been converted.

I am trying to understand how our very large forum of more than 12 years can be moved from 4.2.2 to 5.1.5. This little edit box seems very strange. Is the advanced editor better?

I thought that vB5 supported image cut and paste. Is that a browser issue in my workstation or did I mis-hear? I will try an MS Word cut and paste below.

          Christmas 2014
This year it is especially nice to have Christmas arrive to remind us of the hope for peace and calm.
We are fortunate to both be in good health. We have joined a local fitness club with hopes that it will help us to continue to be well. Now if we could just find a mental renewal exercise.

The comment vs. reply structure is different. Can I refer to a comment by using the link provided in the comment?

The handling of a reference to a previous comment seems rather primitive. But I think I like the comment concept and I also like the preview in a lightbox but I suspect most of my users will not.

You can use the link in the comment to link directly to the specific comment (it will be at the top of the browser window if the page is long enough.)

The editor is a newer version then found in 4.x but image pasting is not supported.

vBulletin 5 is a massive change over vBulletin 4. Please carefully investigate that all of the features and functionality you want are present before migrating. A ton of features found in vB3 and vB4 are still in development for vB5 with no ETA or may never be added. Also, all your vB4 themes, plugins, and modifications will not work on vB5. It's a whole different animal.
