    vb5 to vb4 ??

I am using vb4 in a live site and don't like to play with vb5 since it is not a fully baked product.

If I use vb5 on a new forum and later if I switch both the license i.e LIVE forum with vb5 and NEW forum with vb4, will it work?

    Is vb5 downgradable to vb4?

    (I have 2 license - vb4 & vb5 beta)

I would wait for an official responce from someone, however as far as I can see there would be no way to downgrade to vb4 from vb5. There is simply too much of a change back end.

You may upgrade your vB4 forum to vB5 but may not downgrade vB5 to vB4.
The only way to downgrade is to restore a vB4 backup.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

Try creating a test site instead. It's impossible to downgrade from 4 to 3, so it would be the same to go from 5 to 4 (unless you're a very talented 4GL programmer).

It's not downgradable and the only way to get back to vB4 then is to restore a old vb4 backup (ftp & database).

I don't understand why that would be. We can go from VB5 to IPB3 no problems. So why not to VB4?

Well I would have gladly downgraded to VB4 if it wasn't for losing my content but as it is, it was easier to move to IPB 3.4.5 I have lost nothing and the things that were not working in VB5 moved to IPB and worked without any interventions. Best move I ever did was to go back to IPB. Now I know. I must say though the VB team is very friendly and certainly gave me and my team 110% of support Thanks guys for your help NOTE: I sill, however, can't understand why IPB can import VB5 without loss and VB 4 can't do it. That would be a great improvement to help keeping your customers. I was ready to downgrade to vb4 and back up to vb 5 once it would become more stable.

Maybe it is too much work for a step that usually isn't wanted by many people, as you usually upgrade (and not downgrade)? Of course I am guessing here.

You can't use something like Impex to convert from 5 to 4 or 4 to 3?

You mean moving from VB4 to VB5 isn't supported??

Because it is, in almost every way possible other than numerically, a downgrade.

It's a stupid way to do it however if you can convert from VB 5 to IPB I'd assume you could then convert back from IPB to VB 4.2 using impex?

IMPEX doesn't currently support vB5 anyway. Even when it does, even if you could do it that way, it's not a downgrade, it's an import. The import difference is that using IMPEX, all your URLs are renumbered, meaning existin links in Google will cease to work. As has been stated in this topic several times now, we don't support downgrades, we've never supported downgrades, and we never will support downgrades. The ONLY supported way to downgrade is to restore the back up you took immediately prior to upgrading, but obviously you lose any data created in the interim period.
