Change "Junior Member?"

I crashed my forum and had to start from sc"ratch. Lon g-time users are complaining they don't like their designation "Junior Member." I don't know what this is called, or where I can change it. Can I make it so that each ser can control he text appearing there? What are my options re: watever this is called? Please help me

thanks. I edited the User Titles (I changed them to my own terms for new member, member, and senior member) and I Updated User Titles and Ranks, but when I look at old posts at the forum, they still say member, senior member, etc.

Shouldn't Updating User Titles make all the old posts say the new titles?

Also, isn't there a way to allow users to define their own titles? I set the Usergroup "Registered Users" to "Can Use Custom Title>Yes," but how would users now change their User Title? I don't see the option in the User CP?

Yes, you need to update the User Title counters.

And if Custom Titles are enabled for your usergroup and you have not edited the templates to remove this, then it will show in the 'Edit Profile' options of the User CP.

I already did "update user titles and ranks" but the posts still show the "old" User Titles, not the new ones I defined?

I just want to rephrase me inquiry to make sure we understand each other...

I changed "new member" to "smurfling," "member" to "smurf," and "senior member" to "super smurf." Then I clicked the link to "update user titles and links" and then clicked the "Update User Titles and Ranks" button.

Should I now be able to look at old threads and see my Custom User Titles replacing the old "New Nanber," "Member" and "Senior Member," or will I only see my new custom titles on New threads?

You add a custom title in your User CP.

OK, so what I did is not a custom User Title then. I thought I changed the forum-wide setting for User Titles from "New Member, " "Member" and "Senior Member" to "Smurfling," "Smurf" and "Super Smurf," but I do not see any change in standard (not custom) User Titles - I still see posts that say the poster is a "New Member," "Member" etc. How do I update the Forum to supply my new User Titles to previous posts?

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Update Counters -> Update User Titles and Ranks

Then you need to delete the Junior Member title as I indicatied earlier.

I enabled custom user titles, and I also changed "new member," "member" and "senior member" to "Smurfling," "Smurf" and "Super Smurf" respectively.

I was expecting to see "new member," "member," etc. change over the the new titles I defined, except for those users who have defined a Custom Title in their User CP.

Is that possible? Or am I expecting to see something that is not possible the way VB was written to work?

There is no way 'Junior Member' can show up if you are running the default vB code and have followed the instructions in this thread.

If you have installed any Plugins or Products, first disable these to see if you still have this problem.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

If you still have this problem with plugins disabled, check the includes/xml directory and make sure only the original vB files are in there and none from any add-ons. Then if you still have a problem and have not installed any hacks (which includes portals), fill out a support ticket at:

Please include a complete description of the problem and be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP in the 'Sensitive Data' field.
