    vBulletin 2.0.0 Released

    After 5 months of concentrated development time, and many man-hours of programming, debugging and optimizing, we are proud to announce that vBulletin 2.0.0 has been declared stable for general use. It is now available in the members area for all current license holders:

    I think that the main thanks and credits for this release should go to the development team and the moderators here, who have persevered though my silly suggestions, and your silly questions, and still kept their cool! I think that now would be a good opportunity to announce that we have now hired Ed, Freddie, Chris, Wayne and Kier to help with official support, both on this website, and by email (via [email protected]).

    Of course this release is by no means the end, but just the beginning of a new exciting development in the life of vBulletin. We have already been overwhelmed with suggestions for vB 2.1, and we'll do our best to maintain the balance between functionality and performance. But while you have that to look forward to in the future, enjoy vBulletin 2.0.0 now that you have it. We have spent a long time preparing huge amounts of online documentation to help you get to know vBulletin a little better. Watch out for the template reference guide appearing in the members area, a complete administrator's manual will be put online this evening, and we have a technical manual and vBulletin configuration FAQ for you too! Finally, for all you database die-hards, we have compiled an ERD (Entity-Relationship Diagram) and complete database schema.

    Also, available now from the control panel are several new import scripts. We have updated the UBB5 import script, and we now have UBB6 and vB Lite importers too. Details on how to get hold of these are available in the members area.

    If you are new to vBulletin, why not check out the features that it offers and see how vB compares to other popular bulletin board systems!

    Enjoy! We'll keep on updating things through the evening now, getting everything up to date.

    And now, just for a few details for people upgrading from Release Candidate 3:

    Templates changed

    The following templates have changed in order to enable new functionality or fix bugs, and should be reverted or studied to make the necessary changes:
    • showthread -> removal of clutter and general re-organization, admin options moved to own template
    • forumdisplay -> general re-organization, admin options moved to own template
    • forumdisplay_sortarrow -> re-done to allow the arrow to switch orientation depending on sort order
    • forumhome -> added <meta> tags to prevent proxies from caching index.php
    • privfolder_deletedbit -> removed 'delete it' link
    • usercp_pmdeletedbit -> removed 'delete it' link

    The following templates have changed in appearence only - you need not revert them if you have already customized them:
    • newreply, threadreview, threadreviewbit - in order to prevent nasty page stretching, these templates now break the <table> from the header, in the same way as showthread/postbit does.
    • faq/faq1/faq2/faq3 -> various cosmetic improvement
    • searchintro,memberlist,memberlistsearch,calendar
    • forumjump,showthread_threadrate,forumrules
    • privfolder,privsent,privsent_readmessages,privsent_unreadmessages
    • bbcode -> added named anchor for images section (linked-to in new forumrules)
    • usercp (and associated templates)
    • subscribe (and associated templates)
    • calendar_showdates - removed a comma off the end

    These templates are new for this release:
    • showthread_adminoptions -> contains the old admin options for showthread
    • forumdisplay_adminoptions -> contains the old admin options for forumdisplay

    Functionality

    New Functionality
    • showthread/forumdisplay admin options now only shown to moderators / administrators
    • icon for 'receive updates to this thread' (images/subscribe.gif)
    • sort arrow on forumdisplay now dynamically alters direction depending on sort order (thanks to Mas*Mind for that one)

    And now, the usual blurb for upgrading:

    Backing up forums

    Please be sure to check your backups, that they are complete before continuing with an upgrade. We had reports that PHP was causing time out errors when creating the back up SQL, and this was causing for incomplete or corrupted backups. The safest way to do a backup is to use the mysqldump utility through telnet, as it will not suffer from any such problems.

    New Installation Instructions

    For fresh installations, you must run the install.php file in the admin directory. Before you do this, take the config.php.new file, edit it to contain your details, then upload it as config.php to the server.

    Then you can run through the install.php script in much the same way as old install scripts.

    Upgrade instructions:

    >From 1.1.x:

    Upload all the files, then run the upgrade1.php scrint in the admin area. When you are done, be sure to delete install.php and all the upgradex.php scripts.

    >From beta 1:

    Upload all the files, then run the upgrade2.php script in the admin area. Then run upgrade3.php. Then run upgrade4.php. Then run upgrade5.php. Then run upgrade6.php. Then run upgrade7.php. Then run upgrade8.php. Then run upgrade9.php. When you are done, be sure to delete install.php and all the upgradex.php scripts.

    >From beta 2:

    Upload all the files, then run the upgrade3.php script in the admin area. Then run upgrade4.php. Then run upgrade5.php. Then run upgrade6.php. Then run upgrade7.php. Then run upgrade8.php. Then run upgrade9.php. When you are done, be sure to delete install.php and all the upgradex.php scripts.

    >From beta 3:

    Upload all the files, then run the upgrade4.php script in the admin area. Then run upgrade5.php. Then run upgrade6.php. Then run upgrade7.php. Then run upgrade8.php. Then run upgrade9.php. When you are done, be sure to delete install.php and all the upgradex.php scripts.

    >From beta 4/4.1:

    > From beta 5:

      It appears that the .php3 extension version is not working as desired. We are currently working to rectify this situation, but you will not be able to use the php3 version at all until it has been fixed (links remain .php instead of .php3).

      Please note the .php extension version is unaffected and that is our recommended extension.

      We thank you for your patience!

        It appears to be fixed now. If you downloaded the .php3 version, please redownload it.

        If you experience any problems, please notify us here. Thanks!
