I've just taken over an existing forum that has been struggling, and I've upgraded it from 5.1.x to the latest 5.1.2 PL3.
Things have improved dramatically since the upgrade, but there are still some issues I'm struggling to resolve.
I've also reset a lot of forum and usergroup permissions to make things consistent over the forum, which has resolved some other issues.
I've run the update tools to see if this fixes anything else.
1)
When the home page is selected eg. www.mydomain.com, it defaults to www.mydomain.com/forums (with an S).
This shows an error : That action could not be completed. Please try again, and if this occurs again please contact the system administrator and tell them how you got this message. Actually I get this message in Admincp on certain functions too.
I've changed the FORUMS button in the NAVBAR to point to www.mydomain.com/forum (without an S) which is a workaround for now.
2)
The other issue that has been driving me crazy is that we can no longer change avatars.
They are stored on the server, and up until September 2013 they were all stored as .gif, then, I assume after an upgrade, it changed to .jpeg.
No one can update their avatars. We were using ImageMagick 6. We got the error : Image resize failed due to inability to obtain image size.
I changed to GD and I was able to update my avatar only via the admin panel, but it stores it as a .jpeg. When I choose the update avatar again in admincp, the image fails to show as it is looking for .gif not .jpeg.
I even renamed the files to .gif, and it will show in user details(admincp), but not in avatar update(admincp) or in the user profile.
I have done 2 days worth of research on the avatar issue, but none of the answers I found helped.
I did some inspects on both screens and here are the results.

The other issue I can now see here is the clientscript folder is actually in under the core folder, as is the admincp/user.php
Whilst the last customavatar listing points to the root directory.
At some stage I also received these, but I cannot recreate them.

Again not pointing to the core directory.
I suspect once this is resolved, some other issues may disappear.
