    notification improvements needed for vb4

    Hello to vb developers

I would like to request important improvements to the notification system in vb4
I have no plan to upgrade to vb5 because it breaks all vb4 mods

But also I'm sick of loosing members to xenforo boards which has much better interactions support with the local notifications
Notification of quote, of reply to thread, of Nick reference etc... these local notification are great to maintain a high interaction level and it does not spam mail boxes
I'm sorry to put it straight but xenforo is simply better than vbulletin 4
As for vbulletin 5 well it breaks every mod so it's not an option to me

So my question is should I buy a xenforo license too or are you going to improve vbulletin 4 to nowadays community standards ?

    Thank you

    Hello

No such improvements will be made to vB4, as it is not being developed any further. It is only receiving security fixes now, as well as some php compatibility changes.

Some of what you want can be achieved with modifications, have a look on www.vbulletin.org.

    Sorry for any inconvenience.

Such modifications don't exist, and I would need to pay for them.
Likely pay a lot more than the price of your competitor license.

You broke mod compatibility in vb5 and refuse to update vb4 to nowadays community standards.
Sorry if that sounds rude, but you have serious strategy issues. Maybe it's time to reconsider?

And fyi, I do own a spare vb5 license but have no plan to ever use it. If it means breaking all my mods then I'd rather abandon the ship entirely.

Major version upgrades always break modifications. This was true between vB2 > vB3, and vB3 > vB4 also. It is also true with most other software, otherwise it could never change its code and move forward. That's how software development works,

vB4 is not going to return to active development. Our development team is focusing on vB5, just as other forum software focuses development on their own newest versions.

Sorry that this isn't the answer you wanted to hear.

If you were interested in using that Vb5 license:

Here's a Vbsocial product which can be found at Vb.org, I believe they also make the product for Vb4. Just go to their site and see: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=320004

Here's an ongoing discussion about this kinda mod for Vb5 at Glenn's: http://vbmods.rocks/forum/questions-...enu-social-bar

          Hope this helps some,
          William

There will not be any reconsideration, so you do whatever you think is best.
