[Forum] vBulletin: auto subscribe to social groups

Is there a way to have members of a social group automatically get e-mail notifications about new posts to the group? I see a lot of threads about it on vbulletin.com but the threads are all closed and I don't know if a solution was found.

This feature is critical -- otherwise social groups are basically useless because no one gets notifications about new posts to the group, and it's difficult to find the subscription settings.

Example: I have all of these groups on my vBulletin site and no one uses them because they don't get e-mail notifications...

Sorry, there is no function to do this. This requires modifying the code. We cannot officially support code modifications or forums running modified code, however you can try searching or asking for help with this over at www.vbulletin.org.

This is the reason why I will never buy vBulletin for another website. Your advertised Social Groups feature is basically useless without e-mail notifications, and vBulletin is unwilling to address the problem even though there are many complaints about it.

I've never seen a vBulletin site with active groups, because the feature is undeveloped and neglected. The Social Groups administration is clunky and difficult for me to figure out how to administer, even after about five years of using vBulletin.

I hate to dig up an old thread, but I have to agree here. One of my customers has been on vBulletin since the early days and at this point has a community of 30k+ which has led to the active use of Social Groups. We have an active Feedback Request now asking this exact question. I realize that through Group Tools you can manually Subscribe, but there is no way to Auto-Subscribe as there is with Threads.

If you join a group then the assumption is that you would like to participate in that group's discussions... why then is there no way to be auto-subscribed to the ones you join? This fosters a lack of participation and the stagnation of social group discussion which is the exact opposite of what we want social groups for.

This is a old topic requesting a fairly common sense change that is already being implemented with Threads. What will it take to make this modification? Really?
