    Edit the phrase "powered_by_vbulletin" and remove this code only:
    Code:
    Version {1}
    However - security by obscurity is no security at all. This will not protect you from hackers, if that's what you're looking for.
    Keeping your version of vBulletin up to date for your branch (3.8.8, 4.2.2 or 5.1.2 respectively, at the time of posting) is the best method.

        Hiding the version info from the footer doesn't increase security as the version info can still be found.

          That's correct. As I stated above, removing the version number provides no additional security at all.
          However some people do prefer not to have it there, so the instructions are valid nonetheless.

            It is correct that your version can still be found by a determined hacker by looking at the source code, but if removed your version won't show up in google search results if a hacker searches for that version so in that sense there is some benefit in removing version number.

              Won't stop a determined hacker though.
