  • Is there a VB PM or email log

I am getting spam being sent out of one of my VB web sites and I am trying to toubleshoot it.

Is there some type of log for Private Messages or Emails that get sent out from my VB site that I can look at to narrow this down to whom and how it is getting sent?
I have over four VB site on the same server and only one site has this problem.

You can enable email logging in:

AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Error Handling and Logging

This will allow you to keep a copy of all email sent by vBulletin. There is no logging of Private Messages

Thank you. I will give that a try.

How would the format of that be

      /home/mysite/forum/email_file
      or
      www.mysite.net/forum/email_file

I turned on Error Handling & Loggin--> Log Emails to a File.
I did this to troubleshoot spam that was getting out through the VB software.

Here is one of the emails that were sent and all have are the same but with different email address. How can I tell if a particular user sent this or how the VB software sent this? I would like to stop this from happening, ASAP.

Here is the cut and paste from the VB email logging. I have removed the large amount of the message to save space here and removed the private info by replacing it with *** but you should get the jsut of this.

Says it was sent by vBulletin. All emails in the log will be sent by vBulletin. It doesn't record incoming emails.

Add human verification to your contact form.

Wayne, I already do have Human Verification on. These are all outgoing emails. How is VB sending them? I am confused.

Contact Us Form. Email to users form.

If I wanted to send you an email, I can visit your profile and in the left column is a link to send you an email. Actually, I can access it by clicking on your name above.

Wayne, sorry for the delay in replying. I do not think they are doing it through the contact us email link because the email is not coming into me. It is getting spammed out to many email addresses. I have included a sample pf one of them from my email queue. I have removed the email addresses for privacy reasons and replaced the m with 1234@email.com. I have also removed many more emails because there are over 100 emails. I would appreciate any help on this ASAP because my server is now blacklisted because of this and will no longer send out emails.

There are two ways non-admin individuals can send emails to others in a default vBulletin. These are the Contact US form and Email to User form. You can control access to these through permissions and options. Additionally Admins can generate and send emails to registered individuals within the Admin CP. However the individuals have to be registered and have given their email addresses. Finally there are multiple types of emails that are generated automatically by the system. These do not have user interaction.

The emails shown above do not appear to come from these built-in features because the individual cannot enter addresses in which to send emails to. If someone is sending a single email to multiple locations, then it is either through an addon installed in the software by you or they aren't using vBulletin to do it. If the emails you edited out match the emails of your registered users, then someone could be sending from your AdminCP.

If you really want someone to look at it, then you'll need to open a support ticket. Looking at your customer account, the forum in question should also be updated to at least 3.8.7 patch level 2.
