Search your PC for *.dbx files

You don't seem to be able to do that You have to select the file type from the extension list and dbx is not there.

doing a search for dbx does not work, in the same way searching for php does not bring back index.php

        Go to File>Folder>Compact All Folders
        Now go File>Import>Messages

1)Select whatever program you are using, for me it was Outlook Express 6

2)Then select they account that you just backed up.

3)Then it will produce a new window with the path to the compacted folders for that ACCOUNT!!

To import on your labtop just go file>import>messages and then import the files that you copy over from that directory.

Sinecure, I tried that but the directory was just blank.

However i found the files, nested deep in some hidden directories at:

          C:\Documents and Settings\(my username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\(weird idendity number)\Microsoft\Outlook Express

If you followed the directions I told you, it compacts all those folders into the directory of that weird number... I use the exact method I just explained to backup and import my email messages..

              re:

The repair pst and recovery outlook express email has prompted you a path of the Outlook Express files' storage. And now save the damaged dbx files in the safe folder, they can be useful.

What are you using to search? If you go into Windows Explorer and click the "Search Button" then you can type in *.DBX in the box for search files and folders.

If you use Windows Desktop Search, then just type *.dbx in search bar.

Outlook Express Repair Tool can search dbx files and extract emails from them.

Two ways to find where the files are located. First is open OE then click tools > Maintenance > Store Folder

It will tell you where the files are located

                      ***********

Second is open regedit. Go to

                      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{CLSID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0

Look at Store Root in the right hand pane... it will show you the directory that the files are locaed in.

This place had step by step directions on how to get to your dbx files in Outlook express in XP. Maybe they might help. It seems like microsoft likes to sometimes hide data in "secret" places. I keep finding new paths in XP i didnt know were there and find data all over the place.
