Hello,

I have a client that I am building a website for who needs a forum. I currently have an ASP forum installed in her site because that is what I am use to programming in.. my experience with PHP is somewhat limited. Anyway, I have her site set up so that she has a header, footer and content area. The content area is nothing more than a cell in a table and is set for a specific width.

What I need to know is, how hard is it to completely wrap a website around the forum application so that it shows up in the content area of the table? The test forum I have running now was really easy... I just had to go to the custom_header and custom_footer files in the template directory and add my code... all pages were automatically updated. Is it similar with this software? Unfortuantely, I am looking at using Censura review software and they only share login data with a handful of forums, including this one, so my current ASP forum would have to have its own separate user registration, which I am trying to avoid.

Any info provided would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

vBulletin Suite Sales Question:

I currently have a Drupal based site. I am aware of the Drupal hacks to sync with VB, but want to use the actual VB forums/blogs and not the hacked version. Is it possible to purchase the suite to get all of the features for the community (blogs/forums) and host it say as community.website.com and not on website.com (and the link to the community on the content site would just go to the VB community), have the CMS portion turned off still use Drupal for my content portion of the site? Difficult to explain in a post, but basically can you use all of the community aspects BUT not the CMS portion?

Second question is where are some good places to find someone to have this installed and have it match the scheme and colors of my current site?

1) When I bought this pack will I have the same news, recent news , last comments and so on structure like here (I am afraid that I will not be able to do for my self like here)?

3) When I bought 4.0 Suite how many styles I will have and Will I have the same style like on this forum?

Hi im new to this. I am admin in one forum by vbulletin so i know how to use the contrl panel.

BUT now i want to have my own forum.

can i have it as one of my webpages ? e.g as a button (home, contact us, product, FORUM)or does it need to be a totally seperate site ?

I also looked on the vbulletin website and saw now there is 2 different things ?

Publishing suit and forum ?

If i want to have a forum do i need both ? 1 for forum and 1 for publishing ?

can i change language of the forum or have it in 2 languages ? e.g button to switch languages?

will i need to pay more ? e.g. any fees ? or its just 1 off payment ?

I am familiar with vBulletin and have it in use with another client.

A client site currently running has two sections: Public and viewers can see all materials including on-line forms. The main activity is done via a second portion of the site which requires Username/Password.

Is it possible to structure vBulletin (the forum/blog section) to operate within both sections of the site? In other words, can public viewers use certain forums while private accss viewers can also use the forum but, within the secured portion of the site?

If so, how would this be accomplished?

CMS vs forum directory

Currently I'm using vbadvanced in the root directory...w/ the forums in the /forums directory.

I'd like to use the CMS for the front page...and obviously...keep the /forums directory for the forums.

However, I don't see an option for this in the admin cp. The install needs to be in the /forums directory apparently. Do I have to change my entire site structure? Or is there an easier to to have the CMS in the root and the forums in the /forums directory?

Sorry, this isn't really a pre-sale question, but I don't know where else to post this. One of my friends runs a site using vBulletin, and with his current cash state, I don't think he could afford vB so I am thinking he is using a nulled copy. Before I report him, could I ask what you do when you find out someone is using a nulled copy? Do you just ask them to remove it and then if they don't, take legal action? I just don't want my friend to get into trouble.

I have upgraded into Vb suit 4.0 with the price 190$.However when i think again, it means that my old license just had the value 45$.
If i buy new license ,i just pay 235$ and i have two license one for Vb4 and one for Vb3 and i can run two forums.
So now i want to change,I don't want to upgrade anymore.I want to pay extra 45$ and get new VB4 suit license.
How can i do?

Hello everyone,

I've been doing a fansite for a game for about a year and a half now, and my site is finally getting pretty big (about 8000-9000 people visiting each day). I'm finally getting enough ad money to support my hosting costs and have a little leftover, and I've been thinking about using that extra cash towards upgrading the site to use something with a bit more compatibility and support for what I want to do.

Here is how my site is set up right now: My news page runs on wordpress, as does my media gallery (which currently only includes pictures), and is connected via WP-United to phpbb3 (for cross posting and a shared theme). I have a drupal installation set up to allow my site members to share mod files for a game (Torchlight, if you are interested). I have several mediawiki installations set up to support multiple languages, although English is mainly the only one that gets regular updates.

My original intent was to try to have a system set up where members could just have a single login that allows them to access the forums, drupal, and the wikis. Unfortunately, all of the various integration modules have a lot of problems, and I ended up having to break apart everything other than the wordpress-phpbb3 connection (which is only enabled for cross-posting for staff members). I had problems with user information and passwords either not syncing or being unable to be changed, complete and utter caching failures, plugin and forum mod conflicts, RSS feeds breaking, and a lot more. I'm at a good point to consider something a bit more advanced that is actually made to work together and has reliable support, which has brought me to look at vbulletin.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to phrase my questions. I'll just list them and then give an explanation:

Is it possible to import JUST the names and passwords of users from phpbb3, mediawiki, and drupal6 into one combined vbulletin database?
Can I import all of my wordpress posts and phpbb3 posts and forums into vbulletin? (Preferably, keeping the names of the posters attached to the correct account)
Is there any kind of mediawiki replacement available for vbulletin? If so, does it allow imports from mediawiki?
Is it possible to maintain a joint user database between drupal and vbulletin? (I can't alter the drupal installation because of the way its file sharing database is set up)
Can I use vBulletin to create a media gallery that has pictures, movies, audio and their associated viewers with vbulletin, AND only allow staff members to add content to that section?

My first question is particularly important, because I originally went from SMF to phpbb3, and in doing so I caused problems with how the database was set up, forever requiring a special verification file to be included in my phpbb installation. If necessary I am willing to sacrifice my current forums, only importing usernames from drupal and mediawiki, if I can somehow import all of the old phpbb3 posts into a locked archived forum where all of the original posters are simply listed as guests or something.

I'm hoping to simplify things by switching to a single can-do-everything software so that I don't have to deal with the hassle of multiple theme maintenance, multiple registrations for a single site, and other conflicts. I'm also hoping that by unifying everything I can cut down on system resources, since I won't need multiple installations of everything running all at the same time.

Any answers or advice is appreciated.

(Oh, and just so you know, it says I can add 5 tags underneath my post, but if I try to do more than 2 tags it tells me I am over the limit. Bug/typo?)

When I buy a forum a receive a code (license) Will I be able :

1) to install forum (as a second one to localhost) install mods , do thing at localhost instead of at real forum
2) If something goes wrong will I have a chnase to install the forum second time , third ?

or one license key - for one install and if something goes wrong buy enother license ? :confused:

I already paid the aplication using paypal. I dont recieve the customer id! The mail of registration was office@lyongrup.com. I ask to send me customer id to the another mail lyongroup@rdslink.ro (maybe the curent that i given to you its not working properly)! We didnt receive anithyng! Hi,

I'm using a single sign on extension for TYPO3 that sets a cookie for both vbulletin and the cms. This works fine up to vb 3.8.x
Should I expect a working login after ugrade to 4.0 or has the way the cookie is generated / formatted changed significanlty?

Hello.

I've just downloaded both the vB4 forums beta and the CMS beta from the downloads section. Can't seem to work out how to install them both for testing purposes?

I would like to install them both fresh, unlinked to our current forums (3.8) so I can check out the features!

How exactly is the directory structured taking the CMS into account? Do you just install them all under the one directory (so /forums for example) or are you supposed to install the CMS at the root or something with the forums in a sub-directory?

VBulletin publishing suite start page SEO

Hi,

I currently use a static html page as my starting page, and it is well optimized for certain keywords and ranks very well in Google.

If I used the vBulletin publishing suite it is possible that administering my site would be easier but the seo is pretty vital.

Will the start page be bloated by lots of code?

Will it be possible to use different tags like h1, h2 for certain headings?

Will it be possible to change the header title of the home page to whatever I want?

Is it possible to continue to use a static html page as thestart url but to import the list of articles, new forum topics e.t.c. to that html page? I.e. be able to fully customize the home page and import the important features..

Will there be any advertising module included in the cms or will I have to edit code to for example automatically publish ads after the first paragraph in an article/forum topic/blog post?

Hey i asked about the presale deadline the other day and was told i only have a few hours to purchase @ presale prices, however i noticed on the main VBulletin page the price is still showing $235- for the publishing suit...

Has the deadline been extended ?? i am just waiting for a cheque to clear so i can purchase it, i would prefer not to have to pay an extra $50- just because i am a day or two late...

I have submitted a ticket but thought some great person might know oh below this is another small problem.

Hi i just upgraded my forum http://www.penaltychargesforum.co.uk/ from vb3.8 to vbulletin4 thinking of as i don't use any plugin. at http://www.penaltychargesforum.co.uk cms was acting wired so i uninstalled it and reinstalled it like 5 times. But I have having 2 problems. After reinstall default data doesn't load up(evening after uploading files again). 2nd i tried to reinstall it by using upgrade.php file but getting this error. An unexpected error has occured. Please try again later. If this error continues to occur, please notify the administrator.
Then i set up a test website which is http://www.penaltychargesforum.co.uk/forum/ moved my all data to it. But at test site i am having problem creating a new article and getting database error which is

Hi, I am interested in the full vbulletin CMS suite but only want to use the forums and member blogs not the CMS part. Is it possible to have the forums default as the homepage for the site, and maybe make the CMS part just another secondary or third tab? Can we choose what we want as the "homepage"?

Also, if we use the beta on a current live site, will we be able to easily upgrade it to the full stable version automatically? Or will we have to do some custom programming, change databases etc.? If we use the old version of vbulletin and the blogs how easy will an upgrade be to 4.0?

Hello. I am a 3.x customer who has purchased the 4.0 publishing suite. I'm very excited to say the least. With that said, I am having a heck of a time getting the install of 4.0beta to work properly. Sometimes the install wont complete at step 9 of alpha1, once I got that taken care of it completed, and I am getting php function errors.

Would the install fee actually cover the upgrade, or only a new, clean install?
