Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with both Joomla and the new vBulletin CMS suite. I ask because I just tried the Joomla demo (with the mock-up site you can edit) and I was wondering if the vBulletin CMS editor is any better or different? I'm pretty new to all of this in general so maybe all CMS control panels are pretty much the same, but I found it a bit disorienting at first the way you have to edit things with Joomla.

If anyone could shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Hello, I am interested in purchasing the software. There will be some considerable development time before the website becomes publicly available and even then I am not entirely sure if we will end up using the software at all. So I was wondering if it was possible to just buy the regular license and consider the copyright removal at a later stage for the previously purchased license. Is this possible?

Or is it mandatory to buy the copyright removal option at the same time the license is purchased?

Thanks in advanced.

I would like to know (alot) more about the permission systems, so if you could direct me to a more indepth reading I would be most thankfull. I will also try to describe what I am after;

I would like have the option to make a person/member into a subscriber.
As long as that person/member has a subscription, s/he will have access to certain articles, forumsections etc.
I am pretty sure one has alot of otions with the help of your "group" system.
This is possible with alot of manual work, but with alot of members/subscribers it will be a full time job just to keep track of that.
The thing I wonder is if it's possible to "tag" a group/person for a certain amount of time the subscription will be valid and after the time runs out that person/group will loose all their subscription rights automatically.

My website is here: www.medicalspouse.com and we have articles currently being hosted through wordpress.
Are the blogs in the suite compatible with the current blogs? Will I have to transfer over all blogs manually or will they automatically go into the blogs in the suite? Does the articles component of the Suite seem to be something compatible with what I have running with the wordpress?
How difficult will it be for me to do this upgrade?
User Avatar and Photo Uploads

These Additional Features would be nice to have:
User Chat/IM Capabilities
Some form of User Hierarchy where most active users are rewarded with a special title or something of that nature.
Reasonable Cost
Possibly incorporate shopping features in the future?
Any Additional Social Interaction

I started by researching WordPress/BBPress, Drupal, Joomla, Expression Engine, vBulltetin and TextPattern but narrowed it down to EE and vB so far because they seem the most robust and have many of the features we will be needing. However, since I have never used the complete versions of either solution, I was wondering if you could tell me if vB is the better solution in my case and why?

Thank you,

Hello

I have been searching high and low for quite some time now (wanted to try to figure this out before I posted the questions here), but I was unable to dig up any satisfying information on the matter

The thing is, I'm currently in the process of developing a website, where I already have a functional user database running, and I have always had the thought of using a complete forum software in the back of my head. The forum software I wish to use is vBulletin, but the problem that arise is that it seems really hard to effectively synchronize my database with vBulletin's database. I don't want to force my users to register on both the main site and the forum, but instead only on the site, same with login/logout processing. Is this possible to achieve with vBulletin without having to hack the heck out of it?

I don't think there should have been any problem to have the site evolve around vB's user authentication system, but I'm hesistant to purchase the software before I have the website running properly. Because I do not know how vBulletin handles it's users with functions and databases, it would naturally be hard to develop my site. The last thing I have planned is to somehow integrate the forum with the rest of site.

Taking this into consideration, what is/are the best approach(es) for developing my site?

Hello all

wanted to start a forum. Know very little about installation and what not. Had a phbb forum several years ago, tried install a Vbulletin but was never able to.

Anywho... first, wanted a forum similar to these 2. I need to be able to put up sponsor banners and so forth.
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/ and www.l4p.com This last one I dont think its a vbulletin but the first one is. Is there heavy mods needed for this? Would updating banners and so forth be difficult? Remember I know very little.

Also what would the cost be to install something similar and translate to a different language?

What type of hosting would I need. What version of forum would I need?

Thanks all for the info, greatly appreciate it.

In advance, I thank everyone for their help. I have had phpbb on my website for 7 years now, and am unhappy with certain features. The main one is putting different headers on different message boards. I have a site dedicated to a certain university and athletics, so my request is simple. Does vB allow different headers on each forum? This is big. Also, how variable are the templates? I like a unique design and do all of my own graphics. Thanks again.

Hi VB,

I am ready to buy the VB script but before I do please can someone tell me if I can do the following:

I want to create a subscription based section within my new forum. Therefore when a normal registered member trys to access this section it wil not let them in unless they make a payment via PayPal. Then once they have made a payment they come back to the forum and it lets them in.

However I also need it to auto block them out if they cancel their subscription. I don't want to have to keep manually blocking them out when PayPal sends me the cancellation email.

Is this possible and how please?

Please can you get back to me ASAP as I want to but today :0)

Regards
Paul
