RSS Poster Automatically Promote To Article Or Promote To Blog

It would be cool to extend the capabilities of the RSS Poster to include the CMS and Blogs. Or can we get a control to have a specific forum setup so that all incoming posts get automatically promoted to articles or blogs? This way the RSS Poster could be used in its current setup.

This would be great for syndicating content across various sites.

Email Handling vB4 bounce management to prevent blacklisting?

Will vB4 provide any help for keeping the email addresses members have on file up to date to prevent the forum mailserver from being blacklisted due to notification bounces? (i.e. bounce management; automatic subscription suspension upon bounce; user prompting upon mail bounce)

Database Error on upgrade

Hello,
I still haven't got the problem fixed, but when the upgrade was started it went fine until it reached the Alpha 6 step of the upgrade. On the second step:

How can I change simple colors in default template

I can edit #000000 in css but I can't find where to find them in the default forum. Where can I find the css in the default template so I can get rid of the horrible baby blue.

I can't find anyone with a template so I at least want to change the colors.

Adding Images from albums into articles

I did have a search for this before I posted :)

My website, while community driven, has a series of news posts that reuccur. For these posts I use the same title picture.

It would be nice if though the "upload picture" setting in the WYSIWYG editor that you have a tab to put a picture from your album, that way you dont need to upload it over and over again or find out what URL it is every time you want to put it in :)

Also, while I'm here ;) It would be nice if you could word wrap around a picture when you view the article proper. In the main page where you get the teaser part of an article it's fine, but when you open it up into the main full article it sticks out by itself.

After a bit more playing..... It would also be nice to post an article under an alias (which is helpful if your adding articles and want to give credit to original author)

Ad Locations with Alignment (Left, Center, Right)

For example, right now it defaults to left position... Either make it default to center, or have the option to show 3 different alignment locations...

1. Have a start and end date when the ad starts displaying and when it stops displaying.
2. Track each adds clicks.
3. Track each ads impressions.

I was thinking of something in the settings area where you can send a request to an admin to change your username. You type the username you want into a box and click "request name change" and then the request appears in the ACP.

CMS Orphaned attachments in articles with no deletion options?

Heres another thing I encountered this morning. I was uploading some attachments to a test article I was making, and some how, the attachments went into this list style format isntead of being displayed with a thumbnail like all the rest of them. This was all done from the file upload option in the article creation page. Incidentally, these attachments are not even listed in the article creation/modification page, its like they do not exist. Infact I didn't even know they had uploaded until I saved and went back and looked at the article page from a non-editing view. I was just thinking the file upload had failed.

On the front end though, they are visible in this vb3 style list format. You can click on the link, and it loads the pictures directly on a new page in the same browser window. It does not bring up the Litebox with the forward/backward buttons like the rest of the images do. There also is no edit pencil when you hover over the links. This is with an administration account. The paperclip, is not click able either.

Also, minor thing, I'm not sure why the "HHHHHHHReply" is on the comment I made under the article. It links back to the main content.php page and it does take me there when I click on it.

reported post should include quote of post and member/author that was reported

When someone reports a post, it would be nice if the report includes a quote of the post and also the poster of the post that was reported in the email that's sent to moderators.

Currently this isn't included, and so I sometimes get more than one report on the same post and don't instantly identify that it's the same post being reported (vs. two posts in the same thread). Also I sometimes moderate on the forum itself, and then get a report via email so I'd appreciate the quote/poster listed to make it instantly identifiable. Finally, it would be handy for my own record keeping to have poster identified in the reports.

Also it would be nice to have reports recorded in the admin cp so you would look up a user and see all the posts of theirs which have been reported over time.

Asset Manager Please add ATTACH=CONFIG like the Insert Image option has.

When you add a photo with the insert image, then the ATTACH BB-code automatichly has the option =CONFIG
This is very usefull, since you can set the size of the image (which is a request many people ask for) to large, thumb and medium. And you can set the alignment.
Also it seems to me that in CMSarticles the =CONFIG property is the thing that causes the (first) photo to be shown on the CMS frontpage as well (a normal attach does not show up there in my tests)

Please add the =CONFIG property also to image attachments which are added through the assets/attachment manager (both advanced and the old attachment manager).
Actually now I am just using the Insert image to add my photo's so I can set their size and alignment, while the asset manager is very powerfull.
In some cases I use the asset manager, but then I have to go to text mode and add the =CONFIG property manually to all attachments.

Threads Choose prefix at move thread

An issue I ran to usually with my moderators is that they forget to set an appropriate prefix after moving a thread where prefixes are mandatory. The current process for doing so is very unintuitive (you have to Edit Thread after moving it). It'd be much easier if this could be done with only one step. I.e, when you choose the form you're going to move your thread to, AJAX loads the list of prefixes you can use in that specific forum.

Social Groups Social groups picture categories

I've been checking out the social groups in vb4 and the social groups are much much better in terms of adding pictures to them. Previously you would have to upload a picture to a public album in your profile and then share that picture with a group. But now you have the ability to directly attach an image into that group. Now if we can set picture categories into this group it would be even more functional. Lets say I have a social group for fans of the anime "One Piece". It has a huge following and a variety of pictures all over the internet. I'd like to have image categories for each of the characters within that social group for easier picture navigation. I could just make a new social group for every character and have each of those goups act as categories, but my board isn't frequented enough to necessitate making multiple social groups like that. If image categories were in place, I could have just one social group that would be alot more organized as opposed to having multiple social groups each with their own discussion topics.

Styles Problems i see with vb4 styling

1. It seems to me that we have gone from a reasonably easy to manage styling system to an needlessly complicated system that seems to have gone backwards in useability. Whilst i love the idea of being able to change 30,000 parts of the style, the way it has been implemented is a nightmare to work with, espically for the layman (IMO). Whilst i have been working with vb since 2006, i can see that those new to the system will be overwhelmed with the amount of options, and how they are set out.

Having said that though, i love the additions such as a larger preview for different elements, the breaking up of image use into a separate box, the addition of drop downs for frequently used tag additions and the other smaller additions that make a stylers life easier.

2. Buttons. Arrrrhhhh! How am i to customise my buttons (new thread, edit, etc) when it seems i am stuck with the rounded edges type that is mostly code rather than a good old solid image. This move seems to me to be a step backward in customisation that vb3 offered.

What if i want my buttons to be a square, star shape, or another type of shape? Do i then have to go through the templates and edit each one to use an image instead?

The new buttons are probably going to load faster in the browser, but it is at the cost of customisation imo.

3. Borders. There is no room in any of the stylevars for additional css. What if i want to add a border-left, border-right etc to my style elements? Whilst this was not only possible but easy in vb3, we seem to have taken another step backward in customisation in vb4 imo.

4. Variable names. These are making my tear my hair out. Whilst i am aware that with any major upgrade of a piece of software, there will enviably be a learning curve, i noticed that all the vars i have grown used to over the years have been totally renamed. Not only that, but the var names used are not very descriptive at all.

5. Shadowing. The use of shadows in vb4 is a reasonably good idea, but imo poorly implemented. Why did the devs decide to use a light color to shadow everything? Why couldn't a dark color be used to accommodate both dark and light styles. Because i have a dark style, i must now track down all the shadowing and change it. A needless job when a color could have been chosen that would have complemented both light and dark.

6. Rounded corners on everything. Whilst implementing rounded corners in vb3 was a royal pain, the use of them in vb4 leaves the same issue but in reverse. Allow the user to decide if they wish to have rounded corners or square. The styler and laymen needs to be given the choice.

Overall, vb4's styling is a leap forward that i look forward to working with and learning, but in some crucial areas, it is a step backward from the spirit of vb3, that is, customisation.

Also, if any of these things are being addressed, or have been discussed previously, i apoligise for my ignorance.

Avatars Avatar - Size Settings

Why not also have a link under the Avatar item in the AdminCP to also point to the usergroup settings where you specify the size of the allowed Avatar settings... I first looked under Avatar to set the default size of the avatars. Wans't there, then found them under usergroups. I like the ability to set them to differetn swizes by usegroup (ie. leave the setting there).

But would also be good to reference that through a menu item, under avatars...

INSTALLATION Process Suggestions

After reading all of the various suggestions, I think one area that has been neglected for the basic user is the installation process. This is the first experience most new users have of VBulletin, so I would think you'd want to make it as easy as possible, and also make the process a way to reduce the number of errors, questions that your users are having with your software.

I had posted some random ideas over the last few weeks, but figured I'd summarize into a cohesive thread for discussion. Please feel free to add yor ideas, and I'll keep editing this thread.

Server Requirements Check (after uploading files)
One of the basic items that I've seen multiple times on this forum, is that people do not readily see the minimum Php, and MySQL version requirements. This has caused issues with many users, and although there is a Sticky thread here on the forums, I wonder how many users have actually read it.

Suggestion: Do a version check as the 1st step of the installation process of a new VB install or upgrade. I have included an example from another installation script I use on one of my sites.

File Upload Correct? (after uploading files)
Another common issue I ahve seen posted here in the forums, are users who after FTP'ing the files seem to be missing some files. I have had this issue also, when my FTP program craps out during the upload, and I end up missing some files to be uploaded.

Suggestion: Similar as above, do a basic file check to ensure all of the files (by count, or size) are uplaoded. Again, I've seent his before in other installation scripts (not the other example I posted above).

Plugins/Pgrogarms Diasbled?
Many users have also missed this, and similar to above,
Suggestion: do a check similar to above if plugins, programs have been disabled.

Installation Steps (Next Step Buttons)
After installing VB4b4 I realized how many steps it took from upgrading from a 3.6.8 installation. Each steps had the next step button all over the place. Seems like there would be an easier way to handle this.

Suggestion: Make the Next Step buttons all in the same place. Not just after the different page lengths of the particular step that the user is on. Searching up and down with your mouse for hte next step is a real pain. Fix this with a simple table, or move tot he upper corner, etc...

What Other suggestions?

Styles Post New Thread Buttons

The buttons for posting a new thread and replying to a thread look awful in chrome, to be honest I'd prefer the square ones used in IE.
They look nice and smooth in firefox but in chrome it's clearly meant to be the same but it's very rigid - I personally prefer the square buttons anyway but yah - I think they need some love for chrome.
