I'm stumped on this one. Today, I asked my host if they could help me with the php/mysql software upgrades in preperation for vB4 Suite. To make a long story short, they upgraded my server immediately. Now my vB 3.8.3 database (created with mysql 4.1.22) is incompatible with mysql 5.1.37. I have a copy of the 3.8.3 database on my local machine that I created last Friday.

Is there a way to upgrade the database from mysql 4.1.22 to 5.1.37?

The php installation was also upgraded from 5.2.4 to 5.2.11.

I've upgraded from 3.7 to 3.8.4 patch 4, and for some reasons are users aren't staying logged in.

I fill in my login credentials, and it says "logging in" but then goes back to the page i was on, and the username/password boxes are still there.. this happens when trying to log into admin as well.

If i clear all of my cookies, i can log in and the next page shows me logged in, but as soon as i click away it logs me out again.

This is really frustrating, and luckily i'm only doing this on a development box.

does anyone have any ideas?

DISCLAIMER: I have searched these forums and google for an answer and tried all options that have been suggested in previous threads :)

I just updated to 3.8.4 PL1 from 3.7.3 PL1 and I've noticed that the Social Group Icon upload does not work, giving the following error:

Warning: tempnam() [function.tempnam]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File() is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp/) in [path]/includes/class_dm_socialgroupicon.php on line 165

opeb_basedir restriction set to /home/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp/

In Server Settings and Optimization Options in admin cp I have tried setting the upload directory to /tmp and a temp directories in my home directory with chmod 777 (/home/username/tmp and /home/username/publich_html/forum/tmp) and left the setting blank.

I've done a test upload in Diagnostics and it reports:

Sorry this seems like such an easy question but I really have no idea where to start. I'm pretty new to owning a forum even though I've had it for over a year now. I had a guy updating as they came out but he has been really busy. I want to update to the current 3.8.4 version since we are running 3.7.4 right now. I just have no idea where to start.

Is there a general tutorial out there that explain what to do? I've downloaded the new patch and I'm sure it's a wise idea to back up the data on the current forum? I'm just not sure what's the best way to do it all.

Thanks and I apologize for asking such a simplistic question!

EDIT, also the forum has two login section on the same page. Can someone tell me how to get rid of that? Thanks! You can see what I mean here.....

Hey there,

I searched for a while and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I realize in order to have multiple installations running simultaneously you need to buy multiple licenses. But what about multiple installations in general.

What I would like to do is install vB and use a temp database for a few days. Then remove that installation entirely and install another final version from scratch. Meaning I'm only ever running one copy of vB. Can I do this without having to do anything else?

I was just worried because of the request to enter my customer number at Step 1 figuring it could possibly be a one time installation deal.

Thanks a bunch :)

I'm planning a VB upgrade from 3.7 to the latest VB version. Right now the site is a forum only and we want to add content as needed. Most do NOT know any html so we are going to go woth Joomla as a CMS.

So heres the rub. The VB is currently installed in the root directory of the provider. I'd like to move VB to a subfolder, htdocs/VBulletin. Install Joomla into the root where it needs to be and bridge the two together using the one database from VB.

So what do I need to do to move VB to the sub-directory and not lose any forum content?? Do I install the upgrade into the subdirectory and just reconfigure VB to look for the database at its location?? Couldn't be quite that SIMPLE I'm thinking... NO??

Many Thx
