I spent quite a lot of the last few months working on the vB4 style. Obviously, there was a lot of HTML to convert to the proper semantic style. Kier converted a lot before he left and I was assisting him in that process.

There was just too much HTML to convert for one person so Alpha is very much an alpha in terms of the style. It is very rough around the edges and usability is being worked on.

A few days ago I added a popup to the editor that allows a video url (youtube, metacafe, etc) to be input, which results in a video bbcode being output. The result is that you can finally embed videos in your posts. The timeframe and requirements did not allow me to include a method by which end users can add their own video services but I'm sure that can be handled in the near future.

At the moment I am working on the asset manager, working on its usability.

Very useful news indeed....as good as the AME add on is, it was never perfect and its lack nativeness showed. I applaud this news.

I'd be great to have just copy & paste the youtube link in the editor and it replaces it into bbcode automatically. Same goes for links within the forum (showthread / forumdisplay / private.php links and so on).

Then there's no need for additional styling. All is done within the system so the user does not have to worry about how he can input videos - you just say: paste all your links here - we make the best out of them.

Great addition with the new video embedding by default, people have requested this for just how long now? I do have one question though, and that is:

1. What happens to existing video BB codes? Converted, left same?

As videos are an important content type on the internet. Video discussion needs rating capabilities, and a video directory overview.

Why has Jelsoft/IB chosen to implement them this way instead of adding video's as a content type to the CMS?

I second that.
it will be much easier to put just the url of the video to make it shows within the post.
any chance to do it that way?

Untouched unless you happened to use [video] as the bbcode.

Excellent about the video embedding - VERY excellent.

Could you add videos from:
vimeo.com
exposureroom.com

For filmmaking sites (of which all of the ones I go on reduser.net - dvxuser.com dvinfo.net are vbulletin powered) the above are essential. Vimeo.com is especially popular.
