CMS Grid and Layout Management

I have recorded a Screencast of a quick run through of the current grid and layout management systems of the CMS. The two areas are simply building blocks to creating a page. A page consumes a layout and a layout consumes a grid.

These areas are the only items that I have worked on for the CMS so my comments are going to be limited to this subject.

Remember, these are just components of building a page and I have not included the method by which a page is created. I have not included the method by which widgets are configured.

Great stuff Freddie, please keep it coming. Your doing a better job than most at keeping us up to date.

The back end layout looks pretty intuitive. Do you have any screen shots or video of the front end?
Also, will users be able to submit articles or is that all done in the back end as well?

    Thanks

I have not worked on the front end display code so I have nothing to demonstrate for that.

Pages are defined/modified on the front end so those users with rights, may create/edit pages. There is a very detailed workflow for an item to pass through from content creator through varying levels of review through publishing.

Wow Freddie! I am impressed! I especially liked hearing that we can modify grids by style - one of vB's strengths (in my opinion at least) is that it is a joy to style, and knowing this will be carried through to the CMS is very promising.

Now I really really really hope that content categorisation is going to be equally as impressive! (very similar to Drupals taxonomy system, as per my suggestion on it). If you get that right and the whole thing (forums and cms/blog etc) messes together perfectly (especially via unified content categorisation) then I think the vB CMS will be a cms to be reckoned with!

    Thanks again Freddie!

Will there be also versioning of an article and the possibility to publish in multiple languages?

As far as taxonomy, language support, versioning, I can't offer much on those subjects. I have not looked into those areas, as I have only been focused on that which I have been tasked and it hasn't crossed over into those subjects.

No probs Freddie - I understand, (will eagerly await news on that front from Darren).

And I will say this again, you are doing a splendid job on the bits you are working on!

Looks great Freddie. Can you help me understand the big picture here? What exactly gets its layout in this way... the forum home page, a forum, a discussion, a forum post, a blog, a blog posting, ... any page?

Renep - this is for the CMS, not the forum.

But imagine how cool it would be if this was carried over to 'ALL' vb related products/areas - would be awesome!

And mine! Actually no it would make my week!

Even better is if vB just becomes the CMS (like Drupal) and the forum becomes just a module (like drupals!) (lol).

Although practically, the forum should be able to run independently too, say until vB4.5 or vB5? That gives enough people time to adjust.

Because it's the alpha? New CPs are about the last they add before they go public with the betas.

Ah, thanks Razasharp, so for now this is for non-forum and non-blog pages only. What are they called by the way? Static pages, simple pages, content pages, ...?
