View Full Version : Default vb4 Style Will Not Import
Computer Head
Sun 15th Nov '09, 3:13pm
I installed the vBulletin 4 Beta 3 at my testing site and the default vb4 style gets stuck at Please Wait while it is supposedly importing. It doesn't go anywhere from there. I was able to finish the installation by changing the URL from Step 4 to Step 5 but now the main site shows nothing but a white background and black text, nothing like it is supposed to look. I also tried uploading the xml file through the AdminCP to no avail, as well as re-downloading the file from the Members Area. Any ideas?

Additionally, the forum is now giving whitescreens as is the AdminCP after logging in. Any help would be appreciated.

same problem as above.
altho a note to the above poster. I was able to reach my admin CP by going back to forum/admincp/index.php after loging in and getting stuck on forum/login.php?do=login (the white page)
I havn't found any way of getting the style to successfully work on the normal forum/index.php tho, it shows a white backgrounded page with the forums overlayed ontop of it

I had this same issue, but it just took a long time. If DID work, but it took nearly 5 mins to complete this step.
Try waiting longer and see if it works for you. It shouldn't take this long to complete, but it did finially work.

I'm currently reverting back to 3.8.4 to try again upgrading from the start, I tried giving it longer like you siad but it was stuck on step 4 agian at the please wait for about 10-15 mins. I mean i can understand step 4 maybe taking abit longer but dang if the other steps didn't load within 10 seconds for me.. most of the them only took 1 second

I don't know why that step took so long. If it didn't work for you in that amount of time its probably safe to say that its not going to work. When I installed I actually got worried because that step took so long, I was thinking that something went wrong. But after 5 mins it finished the step.

My hang is at step 7 importing the Master Style (vbulletin-style.xml)
Browser used for running installation: FF 3.5.5
max execution time is set to 30, memory maximum is 65 (I can't alter that one)

I just reinstalled last night to play with it, and I had the same problem, got stuck on the step for oever 5 mins. Then it finially went to the next step. There's something wrong that's causing it to hang up on this step.

Yep, same issue here as well. Stops at Step 7 when importing the vbulletin-xml syle.
I have tried it on updated versions of IE8, Firefow and Safari. Just sits there without refreshing or going into next step.

still having issues, I tried a complete reset and removed my mods and tried the upgrade agian, only to get stuck on step 1 of the 4.0 alpha upgrade - a 1062 error, not sure the cause of this but I desided to skip it and just open a new DB and modify the config.php file so that it pointed to the new database. then I tried a full install. no change, I get stuck on step 7 (aka step 4 of the upgrade.php) where it goes to upload the style.
I'm now wondering if its a problem with my pc that i'm tring to perform the upgrade/install with or if its a problem with my server/sql server. I think i'm going to have one of my other server admins try to perform the install later to see if he gets hung up on step 7 or if it installs properly for him. Because it seems this is a bug some people have and others don't... if we can narrow down whats causing it we might be able to find a temp work around till they can get it fixed.
BTW I'm useing Internet Explorer 7 to do the installation/upgrade

Yes same problem with me.
I hope they investigate this because the style xml is 1.7mb big.

Is that any kind of restricted area? Shows "No Permission" on my end.
So it looks like I'm not the only one with this problem, hope we can get it figured out.

Computer Head, you should try Carnages first link. It's only a couple lines of code to change and for now works as a fix to the issue.
If you can't access the link follow the instructions to associate your forum account to your paid VB licence and you'll be ready to rock in moments!!

I ran this several times and while it fixed it for the most part I noticed small things missing. IE: editor in quick reply. I was able to fix a lot of it but we really need it to import correctly.

See I got it to work for me too the issue was a lot of small stuff was messed up and I had to reimport it section by section from the xml. It wasn't noticeable at first but when I started digging and comparing to this forum I kept finding stuff.

I don't have an editor in my article creator as well. At first my entire showthread category was bad. I think the results will be different from user to user because we use different hosting. I am on godaddy and the max execution time is 30 seconds. I did an upgrade and clean install and same issues. It all was fixed when I manually went in and pasted the correct code in.

I can confirm it. Also happens when updating from Beta3 to Beta4. From Step 4 -> 5 it does nothing after a while so I manually enter step5 in the browser. Same at step 7 to step 8. I think those steps are reffering to the master style. But after manually finishing the upgrade procedure vb4 works and the templates styles ar obviously completed and everything on its right place.
Upgraded under IE8 from vb3.8.4 pl1 to vb4 b3 to vb4 b4 on a mirrored installation (for sure :-) ).

Absolutely INFURIATING bug, carnage's fix seems to work but as you go deeper in your supposedly upgraded version of BETA4 you will find things out of place and some of the styling areas don't work at all.
This REALLY needs addressing before BETA5 is released.

Put in logic to break up style import into multiple passes. This should resolve the reported problem but, as we cannot reproduce this is house, I can't guarantee it. This change affects installs, upgrades, and admincp imports when the file is loaded from the server. Due to limitations on uploaded files, any files uploaded from the client machine to the server will be processed in a single pass.

You could do it with uploaded files as well... you'd just need to store the file somewhere to make it possible. The database would be the best place as its only a tempoary thing.
