ok, didnt see the other reply, that helped. now, what i did was create the backup via the control panel (vb's). i have that on my desktop (vbulletin.sql), and now no longer have vb on my old domain server. do i rename it to dump.sql or can i just use it as is, or am i screwed?

You can use whatever the name of the file is. The name doesn't matter.

It would also help to know exactly what you are doing and what is not working for you.
