Are you using up2date to upgrade your kernel also?
Or are you excluding that from the up2date list, and manually upgrading the kernel yourself?
Just wondering what most are doing.
Is it relatively safe to let up2date update the kernel ?

If the original kernel was installed via RPMs and not custom compiled, then yes it's relatively safe to let up2date install updates... I've always used up2date for kernel updates without any problems (on many servers, including this one). Just an FYI though, you might need to manually check your boot loader config after running up2date to make sure it's ok (your lilo.conf or grub.conf file).
I still have the kernel on my exclude list though, and run "up2date -u -f" when I am ready to install a new kernel, check the configs and reboot.

Pretty much what I do aswell. Although we're using grub.
