I have my current UBB on one host, and need to import it onto my VBulletin site on a totally different host. Is this possible or do I have to transfer the UBB to my new host?

I did the exact same thing. I set up an FTP client on my new server and FTP'd the forum CGI files (no HTML file), the member files and the ultbb.setup, mods.file, styles.file and forums.cgi files to the new server and did my install like that.

If it's a dedicated server it's a lot easier, but those are the only files you need in either case.

So Martin,

what you're saying is I just have to import the files
ultbb.setup,
mods.file,
styles.file
forums.cgi
=========
the members files
and the forum cgi files

And they import in just fine?

Do I have to create a mock directory structure for the files (putting them in the same directories that they were in originally)? Or can I just put all the files into one "import" directory?

I'm moving to a new server in a week or so (site5) and trying to plan ahead.

for the forum cgi files, I assume you mean 'forumindex2.cgi' etc. ?

and the member files, are these the 0000002.cgi files, and do we also need the memberslist.cgi and email.cgi in the members folder?

I would make sure the directory structure is identicle.

I believe he means the .cgi files inside of the forum directories, they are actually the threads.

I would just move over the whole members directory if I were you.:)

the 4 files I mentioned from your main cgi directory, every .cgi file in each of the forum directories, all the files in the members directory.

and putting them in basically the same folder structure is fairly simple and advisable :)
