One of the problems with 'that other forum' is keeping track of troublesome users. I would like to propose a new system based on the three strikes and your out system. Or in the case of our forums, the red and yellow card system:

A red/yellow card is a verbal warning given to people who misbehave on our forums. It is based n the card system in football (soccer to you ?) A yellow card is an 'official warning' - a red card is what is hown when a player is ordered from the field of play (sent off) and receiving a
one or two game ban - or in our case it is the same as a poster losing their posting right for a period of time.

How about we have the ability to offer a user an official warning for their actions, and have this recorded in their profile ? Maybe a yellow card could show up next to their name if they're on a warning ?

Ideally, the software would manage this automatically, but maybe it could simply hold details of their warnings, and leave the banning up to the forum admin ?

the yellow/red card system would be effective, and it's a good idea as well :)
Ofcourse it should be well explained how it works (to the users)

you can see something like this at: http://www.helponthe.net
They have hacked their UBB to include a "Request Moderation" button. I prefer the yellow/red card. I'm sure some people prefer the three strikes, and I also think this simple request moderation is usefel.

Wow! What a wonderful solution! :) Simple, yet effective... The person who thought of it must be a genius...

Yes please, John... ;)
